Pearl of The Beading Gem

With a name like Pearl, you could say the Beading Gem was naturally destined to be a jewelry artisan. A scientist by profession, she has had a life-long interest in design. After dabbling with different crafts, she became hooked with jewelry making several years ago.  She then started teaching beginner beading and to sell her work locally in Halifax, Canada.

When her students started asking for a website, that’s when she began her blog, The Beading Gem’s Journal. It was initially just a place to list her workshop schedule and to showcase her students’ work. Their designs are often inspiring in themselves so that lead on to additional professional feature designer articles. Her firm belief the only restriction to creativity and innovation is ourselves led her to write about the more unusual jewelry designs and materials. Moving beyond our comfort zones is not always easy.

The Beading Gem certainly has different facets. Many readers really enjoy her lively bejeweled historical mini-biographies and even the odd scientifically biased posts if they are related to jewelry, gemstones and jewelry making. But the very heart of her blog is the growing collection of free tutorials – some are her own and others garnered from the far corners of the internet.  The tutorial listings inspire readers to learn more about craft and to try different techniques.  The blog really contains Pearl’s own notes as well as marks her own journey as a jewelry artisan.?
