Earn extra from your Creative Pursuits

12 Ways to Generate an Extra $1200. a Month from your Creative Pursuits

Every time I hear artists say they wish they could do their crafts full time, I am so sad that they believe in the myth of the starving artist. It’s just not true.

If you’ve ever attended a wholesale trade show like the Buyer’s Market of American Craft, you know there are artists who make a full time living doing what they love. Their art IS their day job. Exhibiting at a wholesale show means putting out a lot of money up front and being ready to produce a ton of work and sell it for half the retail price.  But selling wholesale isn’t the only way to make a full-time living from your craft.

Over the years, consulting with artists one-on-one and in small group workshops, I’ve learned that many crafts people are not as creative about selling their work as they are about making their art.

You’ve probably tried selling at holiday craft fairs and possibly put your work in a few galleries or shops as well as listing online. Those are all great places to showcase your craft and I would definitely recommend continuing to do them. Of course, I’m biased toward HandmadeArtists.com because Andrew and Kimberly do such a great job of supporting artists and the community.

So many artists come to me looking for ways to ramp up their income that I made a list of all the tips I’ve given private clients for ways to generate cash from their craft in addition to the above venues.

Recently I presented these tips in a tele-class titled “12 Ways to Generate an Extra $1200. a Month from your Creative Pursuits”. When I began listing the 12 Tips, I wasn’t thinking beyond implementing one or two of these ideas and bringing in enough revenue to make a mortgage payment, which is nothing to sneeze at. But when I realized how many artists dream of eventually doing their craft full time to replace income from their job, I realized that if you implement all 12 of the tips, that’s $14,400 a month. I don’t know about you but I can sure live well on that.

I don’t believe in get-rich-quick programs. You have to work at it but these are all easily implemented activities that will multiply your profits.

Are you thinking you’d like to make more money but your craft is time consuming and you can’t possibly create enough inventory to sell 12x what you do now?  Some of these suggestions don’t require you to produce more products. Every one of these tips is legal, fun and rewarding for you AND your customers.

How do I know they work? Because these are all things I’ve either done myself or recommended to clients and they’ve generated between a thousand and fifteen hundred a month from each tip.

I had such a great response to this tele-class that I was asked to present it again to an international audience last month at a price on $89. each but my readers and members of the Handmade Artists Community Dragonscale

Please do let me know which tips work best for you.
