Branding your Shop
Brand Yourself and your Shop!
Branding your Shop is a Must! In the 4 years I have been on line the one thing I have discovered is how important it is to Brand your Shop! I have seen so many shops with no banners, avatars, logos or I have seen different ones on other sites… So confusing to know who is who! Be sure your Name is Visible too! Just a Picture is not enough!
“Why Brand” you ask?”
To make it easier for people to find you.
If they are used to seeing a common “Logo” for you and your shop, then it is easy to “Spot you in ther crowd” so to speak!
And it’s not just the pic… you need to have your shop name on it and then use it everywhere!!
My Example to you is my own shop and site. I have been the same avatar and banner for what seems like forever now. I was Made for Me by Oaklie and shortened my name to Oaklie’s Fashions.
The text on the banner is different but the Logo is the same… people still know it’s me.
Be Consistent!
When I join networks, etc.. it always goes with me! It has become my Brand.
A Shop with no Banner or Avater.. or just the “Generic” one that is provided says nothing about you or your shop! You need to let viewers know who you are and then they begin to recognize you! It’s all part of marketing yourself and your creations
Whether you create your own or have someone do it for you.. once you find that “Look” you want.. Stick with it. Help shoppers find you easily!

Great advice Anne it is critical to be consistent and get your name out there wherever you can!
Thank you Andrew… 🙂
Great article Anne and so true…. when I worked in London in advertising we had it beaten into our heads………….the brand is you…you are the brand…..
I have been in business now as Lottie’s Trinkets for 8 years and have stuck to my “colors” for avatars and art show materials………it does pay off. I hear people saying there is that Gold/Orange girl with the Brit accent……and yes, I do play that up; use what you have! – Lise
Ideas I have thought about, but just never got around to doing something about it – now I will try and find the time to just ‘do it’. Your article made so much sense! Thanks so much!
Oh, ABSOLUTELY! I wrote a blog post a while ago about labels…. when I first started the labels were a colossal, government-required pain in the backside. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that the label is MY label – perhaps the most important detail on anything I create. Your logo/brand is so incredibly important! Thanks for writing this great article about something that so often gets overlooked!
Thanks Guys. I see so many shops with no banners or avatar or they change them constantly. Just imagine if KMart or Walmart or Nike, etc change they logo all the time… lol
At any rate I do think it’s very important if you want to be successful on line!
Great info Anne! I find myself just passing on a shop that doesn’t look right, meaning no avatar, no statement, just a few items to sell, it looks so unprofessional. I don’t buy from them,it’s that simple, I love to have peeps I trust and can go to in confidence:)
Thanks Nancy.. I agree… Just like on Twitter.. I don’t follow Eggs lol. Once you have your brand….. it’s just a matter of using it.
branding is very important…that’s why I leave that aspect of our business to Amanda. lol

I agree that it is crucial to getting yourself found. I used the same logo for years and recently changed it, but retained the same color palette and had my name added to it. (Thank you Anne!) So many do not have anything to identify themselves and I think it just looks unfinished.
Branding is everything and maintaining that brand is work. This includes your blog, twitter, facebook, your shop and just about anywhere you socialize and sell online.
