I made Three Bears Necklace using a beautiful piece of hand carved Ox Bone with three bears with a mountain scene in the background.  The beads are Beryl, with hand carved Ox Bone beads with a handmade Sterling Silver Butterfly connector.  This collector's piece is approximately 28" and from the connector hangs down another 3 1/2"  The carving is 2 1/2" across by 1 1/2".  Great piece for Bear Collectors with a bonus pair of earrings.

Beryl Gemstones
Beryl is the common name given to a group of gems having a similar chemical composition. The name ‘beryl’ originated in India and is derived from the Sanskrit word 'veruliyam', an old term for the gemstone chrysoberyl. It is from this the Greek word 'beryllos' which means 'precious blue green color' was developed. Beryl is often referred to as the mother of all gemstones. Beryl in its purest form is colorless. However, impurities in beryl give it many colors. There are six well known types of beryl. The six different types or varieties of beryl include aquamarine, bixbite, emerald, goshenite, heliodor and morganite. Beryl jewelry can be cleaned using warm soapy water and then thoroughly rinsed. Though Beryl does not scratch or damage easily it is not advisable to clean beryl stones in ultrasonic cleaners.

It is said that in ancient times Beryl was used to ward off demons and evil spirits. It was also used as a talisman to protect the wearer from dangers whilst traveling. This stone is mentioned even in the Holy Bible (Ezekiel 1:16) where it describes the wheels of God's throne resembling to that of a gleaming beryl. This stone is said to promote good luck. The metaphysical properties of this stone include its ability to cure a number of intestinal and stomach related illness. It is also said to be effective at treating disorders of the heart and spine.
