Welcome
Welcome to Carrie's Curiosities, LLC, home to hand-poured, natural wax candles! Found here are lovely jars and tins, filled with creamy, divinely smelling, natural soy and palm wax candles, that will brighten up anyone's home.

All candles are proudly made in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, by me (Carrie), also proudly "Made in the U.P."!
I have been a candle enthusiast for years and recently decided to try my hand at making my own candles. Once I started, I couldn't stop and decided to start sharing them with others.
All my candles are made from natural soy wax or palm wax and are highly scented! They are all hand-poured by myself, with great attention given to each one.

Shipping
DOMESTIC SHIPPING:
All candles will be packaged safely and shipped through USPS. I will ship orders through parcel post or priority, depending on the size of the order or request of the customer.
(All container candles, pillar candles, votive candle packs, and "box" tarts/melts will be shipped in a box. Small tart packs will be shipped in a bubble mailer, unless they are part of a larger order.)
Orders will take approximately 7-10 days for parcel post or 5-7 days for priority.

Orders will usually be shipped within 3 - 5 business days, after purchase and payment has been made & cleared. (Please note, if a custom order is placed, the candle will be made to order, so it will take up to 8 days before the order is shipped.)

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:
Items will be shipped through the USPS by First-Class Mail International. If you wish to purchase more than one candle, I will be happy to combine shipping, but please note, if the items weigh more than 4 pounds (which is approximately 1 - 16 ounce candle and 1 - 8 ounce candle), they will need to be shipped Priority. The cost to ship Priority will be higher.
(Please contact me and I can make up a new, custom listing with your shipping costs reflected. If you do not contact me, I will simply invoice you for remaining shipping charges.)
Any and all taxes, customs and/or additional fees are the responsibility of the BUYER.
(Note that custom fees you receive are NOT included in the cost of the shipping and are the responsibility of the buyer.)
Items will be shipped once the order is paid in full, that includes all shipping charges.
Please allow 2 to 6 weeks for the package to arrive.

**Please note, I will ship to the address that is linked to the Paypal or Etsy account, used to pay for the purchase.

Refund & Exchanges
I really do strive to make the best candles I can, but if there is a problem with an order, please contact me within 48 hours of receiving the product(s).
Returns of any unused candles need to be made within 5 days of the purchase and you will receive a refund or an exchange. (Shipping charges to return the item(s) are the buyer's responsibility.)
For custom orders, all sales are final; however, if the item(s) are damaged or broken, please send me a photo of the damage within 24 hours of receiving your package. Once proof of the damage has arrived, I will refund the cost of the order (the shipping costs will not be refunded) or make a replacement order, depending on the wishes of the customer. (If you wish to have a replacement order, the buyer will only be responsible for shipping costs and customs fees for International orders.)

*Be sure to read and follow burning instructions for the candles, so that they burn cleanly and completely.

(Please note, all candles are handmade by me, so there may be a slight difference in the color of each candle. Also, burn times are approximate, there may be some difference.)

Additional Policies and FAQs
Please feel free to contact me about a custom order!
Not taking wholesale orders at this time.

Just to note, all candles made, come from a non-smoking household!

FAQs:
1) What is soy wax?
Soy wax is wax that is derived from the by-products of the soybean. It is formulated with other vegetable waxes to produce a wax that can be used in making candles. This wax is all natural and makes very nice, long burning candles.

2)Why soy...
--Soy beans are a renewable and sustainable resource, grown in the USA!
--Soy candles produce less soot!
--Candles have great hot and cold scent throws!
--Candles have longer burn times!

3) What is palm wax?
Palm wax is an all natural, renewable resource that is obtained from the oil palm in Southeast Asia. It has been grown as a commercial crop in well managed and regulated estates since the early 1900's. the oil palm produces fruit in bunches which are harvested and sent to palm oil mills where the oils are extracted, sterilized, clarified and purified into crude palm oil. The crude oil is then sent to palm oil refineries where it is processed further into products such as cooking oil, shortening, cocoa butter substitutes, non-dairy creamers, soaps and of course, Palm Wax.

4) What are the differences between the 2 types of waxes?
Soy candles have a creamier appearance and the wax is softer, so when you burn soy candles they will liquify faster. They are very clean burning, having great scent throw and last long. Soy wax can also be cleaned up with soap and water.
Palm wax is a harder wax, so the candles tend to burn slower. They have a pretty crystallized look, once the candle has finished setting. They are also clean burning, have great scent throw and last long.

5) What types of wicks do you use?
I use HTP wicks, that are made of cotton, with an inner core of interwoven paper fibers. These wicks work very well in soy and palm wax candles.
I also use wood wicks, that are comprised of two pieces of wood. The wide, soft piece of wood produces the width of the flame while the narrow, hard piece of wood, called the booster, produces most of the heat. It may not be apparent just by looking at the wicks that they are comprised of two separate pieces of wood. However, these two pieces of wood are infused together by a special machine.

6) What is "frosting"?
Don't worry, your candle is not drying out....
Frosting (the white coating that appears on soy candles) is a natural characteristic of soy and is part of the soy experience. It is not a flaw and it is unique to pure soy candles.
Frosting does not affect the scent throw or the burning properties of the candle. You can safely burn a candle with frosting. Frosting is simply the natural wax re-crystallizing and trying to return to its natural state.

7) Soy Votive Candles:
Soy wax, once heated, will soften to the point where it cannot hold its shape any longer. Soy votive candles MUST be burned in a protective holder to prevent a fire hazard and to keep the wax from making a huge mess.
