This sterling silver flower ring was constructed by hand sawing two flower patterns and flat strip of metal from an 18 gauge sterling silver sheet. I used a jewelry saw to cut to outer 5 pedals as one continuous form and repeated the process for the inner pedals. These two flat pedal forms were hammered on a dabbing block to form the three dimensional flower shape, add depth and realism, and create the naturally curved pedals of a flower, which produce natural highlights and shadows when light strikes the surface.

I worked the flat strip of metal into a loosly formed round shape and soldered the ends together with an acetylene torch. This round formed is then placed on a steel ring mandrel and hammered into a perfectly round ring shank. The inner and outer flower forms along with the ring shank and stone setting were then soldered together. I bathed the ring in hot liver of sulphur to oxidize the silver and create those rich dark shades. Out of all the endless patinas and processes for oxidizing silver, I have found temperature controlled liver of sulphur to produce the best results with rich hues and natural iridescence. Since I still was seeking a strong focal point to make this ring stand out, I set a 3mm red coral stone in the center whorl. The ring was then hand polish to perfection using varying pressures to create accents and shades.

The flower ring is a size 6 and the diameter is between 3/4 to 1 inch.
