|Hi and welcome to Tome Harlene!
I'm very excited about this journey... It's amazing how life unfolds in ways never imagined. When I think back on it I realize that this journey started many years ago. Growing up in a wonderful and humble family with a subscription to Teen Vogue, I realized I had to be creative to dress the way I wanted to . Thrift store finds and hand-me-down clothing from my sister became my greatest ally and teachers for creativity; I learned to look at things beyond their present state and breath new life into them.
My sari scarves are one of my favorites - these are beautiful pieces of vintage silk rich with history and now living a new life in a new form. I wash and soak the saris before cutting and sewing them. Some will have signs from their past life but I think that enhances the authenticity and beauty of the scarf. The stories these scarves could tell...
Be on the look-out for my denim scarves which are also up-cycled and from vintage jeans, mostly LEVI'S
Jeans and scarves are my fashion staples, I just can't get enough of either of them so it's only fitting my shop would be what it is!
I named my shop after my mother whose real name is Tomie Harlene, she is the embodiment of everything feminine. The picture you see in my profile page is a picture of my mother painted by my daughter.
I am so happy my journey has taken me to this wonderful place and community called Etsy!
I'm a bit of an insomniac and my mind is always racing with ideas and on the go. Habndmade has been great for those frequent sleepless nights, I love communicating with people from all over the world and those who are in different timezones.
Thank you for visiting and please reach out to me with any questions or suggestions.
