popartballons's Profile

Bio
Born into a small mining community in Western Pennsylvania, and not wanting to mine, set me on a path of discovery. A large extended Italian family kept me busy most of the time, exploring options to leave filled the rest of the time.

As soon as I was able, I joined the Navy and set sail into the unknown. Working and traveling in the service opened my eyes to a portion of what the world offered. Like many before me, and many after me, I set out to find my place in the world after leaving the service. I lived in places from New York to San Francisco and discovered I had an affinity for hair. I had great mentors along the way that taught me how easy ‘complicated’ hair-dos really are, and I excelled. Settling mainly in San Francisco opened my eyes to so many cultures and ideas, my head was constantly spinning. Eventually the time came for me to strike out on my own and open my own salon to cater to my clientele. I moved down the peninsula and got to work. My eyes are often bigger than my stomach, so it wasn’t long before I expanded to a larger salon, where I stayed until retiring.

Retiring from hair didn’t mean retiring. It meant another journey was beginning. I took a lot of lessons I learned in and around hair and helped others decorate their salons and homes. I was searching for an artistic outlet where I could get my hands dirty. Realizing how soothing the sounds of water can be, I dove headlong into crafting custom fountains, for both indoor and outdoor use. Working on a moving piece of art and using a wide variety of materials, made me long to create something with a more lasting feeling behind it.

An old friend sought me out me looking for something never before seen to use as decoration inside their fabulous house. That is where I discovered my love of BALLOONS! Balloons are happy, fun, dynamic, but sadly don’t last too long. I took a different approach to how a balloon could look and how long it could last.

It all worked out so well that I eventually acquired Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights for a BRAND-NEW product.

As same-sex marriage inched closer to a reality here in California, I wanted to create something to celebrate this new world where even more couples could live their dream of married life. Once again I got busy. I first created a same-sex male wedding decoration. While looking to decorate my special balloons I discovered Swarovski Crystal Elements, which set my mind on fire. With deep and lustrous colors, and a healthy dose of sparkle, a perfect union of balloon and bling was created.

My work is constantly evolving and being refined. I am creating more and more pieces and started branching out into hetro wedding arrangements and decor, and to centerpieces for different occasions, and to simple, beautiful Bud Vases that are perfect for any setting.

The best thing about my decor is that you get to keep your balloon arrangement for life, a little dusting is all that is needed to keep them looking great.

I hope you see something you like while you are here, and yes, they tend to be a bit extravagant, but so am I.
