Hey, Jordan here! Thank you for stopping by to find out a little more about me! My husband describes me as creative and fun… and also dorky, quirky and spunky! The following is the story of me and my inspiration. Well, I was born and raised in Lake Havasu City, Arizona – a notorious vacation destination with a big reputation (that rhymed, ha!) – it is actually a pretty small town with temperatures regularly exceeding 120 degrees in the summertime. I believe that the town I grew up in had a great impact on my art; it was such a small town, and too hot to be outside for long periods of time, so I spent a great deal of my life dabbling in different kinds of art. I met my husband when I was 18 years old working at a roadside assistance call center. We dated for a few years and were married in January of 2011. Shortly after our awesome Star Wars-influenced wedding, we moved to Boise, ID and fell in love with the area. I can’t tell you how beautiful it is to see grass and trees, leaves changing color, snow and tall buildings… but I do miss Arizona’s red and purple rock formations and having an awe-inspiring sunset every evening. My whole life I dabbled in arts and crafts, from painting to sewing, jewelry making to knitting… but I was never really great at anything. I had to give up many of my art supplies when we moved, and after arriving in Idaho I needed to find a new hobby. I was browsing online one day, not really looking for anything in particular, and I found a beautiful black and white image… I clicked on it to see a larger view, and I was blown away when I saw that the caption said it was cut from paper. I HAD to try. I borrowed my hubby’s old dull Xacto knife and some black cardstock… and I was HOOKED! I LOVE working with paper. There is just something about knowing how delicate my art is, and pushing it to the limit. I am inspired by everything around me… it’s almost like I see the world in silhouette constantly – and it is not unusual for me to stop in the middle of a sentence and take a picture of something that will become a papercutting, and then continue on… I think my husband is used to it. Well, he’s getting there! Haha. I hope you find my pieces as beautiful as I do… and don’t hesitate to shoot me an email, whether you have a question, a custom order request, or you just want to say hi!
