I knitted this with Silk City 3/2 Perle Cotton on a Brother 970 with ribber, with a gauge of about 6.75 stitches and 10.4 rows per inch. My finished top had a chest measurement of about 35.5" and a length of about 21.5". The size could be adjusted by changing the gauge, or by adding extra rows to each side of the body pieces and/or adding extra stitches to the length.

The advantage of sideways knitting is the ease with which you can knit slimming vertical stripes! Use my stripe pattern or come up with your own. Of course, the pattern can be simplified by knitting in a solid color.

This design works equally well for a cottony summer top, but in a warmer yarn such as wool or alpaca it would be terrific for layering!
