Short Row Beret Pattern
Gray and black berets are "minimalist" style; peppermint beret is "moderate"; cream and scarlet berets are "full".
This beret is worked in short rows, with stitches in holding position on each edge. The long edge is then hung on the machine and the ribbed brim is worked downwards. The brim and hat top are then seamed and a topper added, if desired.
The pattern is written for 4 sizes: Child, Adult Minimalist (smaller top), Adult Moderate (average top), and Adult Full (larger top, for slouchy effect).
It can be knit on any machine where you can get the correct gauge with a worsted weight yarn (4.8 sts per inch; anywhere from 6.2 to 6.64 rows per inch).
A ribber isn’t required if you’re willing to manually re-latch stitches, or knit a hem.
