A classic style, with optional rugby-style stripes, a crew neck, and button or snap placket on one shoulder so it's easy to fit over baby's head. With a 25" chest, it should fit most babies aged 12-18 months.

Machine knitting instructions are included for a lightweight version in fingering weight yarn (standard gauge machine) and for a heavier weight version in a light worsted weight yarn (bulky or midgauge machine).

Some experience is recommended, especially if knitting in a stripe pattern. It can be simplified by knitting in a solid color and ignoring the instructions for color changes.

Another variation would be to knit it color-block style, using different colors as desired for the front, back, sleeves, and ribbed edgings!
