This handmade sterling silver flower pendant has a beautiful genuine dark blue lapis centerpiece set among the petals. The outer petals and the slightly smaller inner petals, or whorls, were sawed by hand from 18 gauge sterling silver using a fine metal saw, filed smooth and lightly polished. The two pieces were then shaped, formed on a solid steel dapping block, and soldered together with an acetylene torch, before setting the genuine dark blue lapis in the center of the inner whorls. The sterling silver was given an aged antique look with lots of contrast and character by applying an oxidized finish. Being handmade, there is no attempt to replicate the exact uniformity or perfect edges of the petals in terms of the symmetry and perfection you would find in machine made or cast flowers. This unnatural perfection would woefully spoil the natural splendor of this handmade flower design and detract to the realism I tried to capture in the pendant.
