Jewelry / I think I may have lost my mind!
« on: July 22, 2009, 01:43:48 PM »
I just finished a commission piece for my brother.  It's a sterling silver and genuine ruby micromaille necklace.  My brother provided all the materials.  He bought the rubies on E-bay and then had to order a bunch of settings from a couple sites and had me set them (boy did that make me nervous seeing as I've never done any stone setting before!). It's a gift for his girlfriend.

(We're currently trying to agree on a price.  That's going to be the difficult part as he has some huge expenditures coming up and I'm not at all comfortable asking family to pay the amount that this came up to for just the time.)

Jewelry / More New stuff

Well, the semi-local jewelry artist I've been working with decided to see how well my work would sell at her juried shows and so is providing me with all the wire to make earrings and bracelets in just about whatever weaves (although she particularly likes Dragonscale) and then the two of us split the profit as it's her wire an show(s) an my work.  It'll be interesting to see how this works out!

Jewelry / New stuff
« on: June 25, 2009, 01:20:25 PM »
I just finished earlier this week the gold-filled Dragonscale cuff bracelet that a jewelry artist I'm currently working with requested and thought I'd post it (along with a few earrings I made the other night).  I'm sure I way under sold it, however, she provided the wire which made it trickier to price as I didn't spend a cent on it, only time. (Even so it took a looong time to make!)

Jewelry / A few wire-wrapped pendants
« on: June 17, 2009, 11:48:42 AM »
Last year I bought a few small geode slices at a semi-local antiques and collectible festival and just now finally got around to wire-wrapping them.  Right now I'm planning on eventually making them the focal points in some chainmaille necklaces, I just need to figure out how fancy I want to go (and have enough silver!).

Jewelry / I am such a geek
« on: June 09, 2009, 12:57:39 PM »
Well, if I wasn't a geek before I think I am now! This is my entry for the fantasy theme contest at MAIL. I've had this idea floating about in my head for a while and when this contest started I just couldn't resist. It's a scifi inspired fantasy looking entry.

A chainmaille Goa'uld hand device!

Jewelry / Another chainmaille bracelet
« on: May 24, 2009, 02:49:58 PM »
I've been making a lot of bracelets lately.  I'm hoping to have a show in November with my dad (he does woodworking), and since I haven't found a job yet for the summer I'm taking advantage of the extra time to make some more things for it.  I've had this weave lying about for a while and thought it was about time I did something with it and thought I'd post a few pics.

Art / Wood Carvings
« on: May 07, 2009, 12:53:28 PM »
I got to learn a little about wood carving this semester in my sculpture class!  We were supposed to make a four foot wood carving using power tools.  Until that class I had never worked with wood before (and likely won't again!).  I ended up making a bunch of small Celtic carvings. Four are of different Celtic knots and then I made five of the Celtic cat.  Each set of carvings is a different kind of wood. There's cherry, black walnut, maple, quarter sawn white oak, and either ash or bass wood (I can't remember which). So this is my first, and probably last, attempt at wood carvings.

Art / Painting II Final
« on: May 02, 2009, 04:27:48 PM »
Well, I guess this would go in here.  This is what I painted for my final project in Painting II.

I combined a Hubble image and a print I made in Photography I.  What was rather amusing while painting this is that the person whose face is in the painting was actually one of the guys in my painting class.

General Discussion / I got my AFA degree!!
« on: May 02, 2009, 03:26:09 PM »
Last night I finally graduated with my Associates of Fine Arts degree! I also managed to graduate with a whole pile of honours which is rather rare for that program. Now I need to start getting ready for my BFA degree which, if everything goes well, I will be starting next year.
