What exactly is LinkedIn?  I recently received a LinkedIn invitation from someone wanting to add me to their LinkedIn professional network, but I don't have a clue what LinkedIn actually is and wanted to make sure of what it is before accepting it.

Haven't posted anything for a while so I thought I'd post a couple of my recent wire-work projects :).

Wire and found object dragonfly sculpture. The body is made up of a rusty screw-bit I found outside while taking a walk, the rest is made from 20ga and 28ga wire. The 2 1/8 inches long with a wingspan of 4 3/4 inches and stands about 1 inch tall.

This was part of my mom's birthday gift this year. A very large damselfly sculpture (wingspan of about 16 to 18 inches) for her flowerbed. I took apart a few
copper candle holders I made a few years ago and reused them to make the damselfly. The main body was one entire candle-holder that I reshaped and attached some beads and a couple buttons to. The eyes are actually buttons that I just repainted.

General Discussion / Woohoo!! I'm a little bit excited :)
« on: March 12, 2011, 07:01:36 PM »
I'm a little bit excited, because a month or so ago I submitted an advertisement for my jewelry to the Renaissance Magazine and.....................

It was accepted!!!!!  This will be my first time advertising anywhere let alone in a nationally published magazine so I'm a bit excited.

Also, I just scheduled my first SCA merchanting event for this summer.  I've never tried selling at any of their events so this should be interesting.

General Discussion / Do Blogs really help?
« on: March 11, 2011, 03:30:58 PM »
I have a question for all of you that use Blogs to promote your work.  I've been reading a lot of books lately regarding starting a creative business and just about all of them strongly suggest having a Blog.  Problem is, I haven't the first clue about them.

So my question is this: do they really help?

Any advice that anyone could give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jewelry / Christmas gifts and other stuff
« on: December 15, 2010, 03:18:33 PM »
I finally finished making this year's Christmas gifts for some of my cousins.  The wire-wrapped pendants didn't take that long, but the other pendant took far longer than it should have.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped hand-polished Petosky stone.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped pendant.  Not sure what the stone is except that it is one of the stones my grandfather found, cut, and polished.

Sterling silver and Carnelian pendant.  This pendant took me waaaaaaay too long to make.  I was stuck on getting to last two prongs to solder, and somehow there was always a gap preventing them from doing so.  I ended up having to make an entirely new setting with all four prongs already soldered to the base, saw off the old setting and solder in the new one.  I had the strong urge to shout "Q'pla" (Klingonese meaning "success" or "victory," and yes I know I'm a geek :) ) when it was finished.

Well, I have a show next weekend so I've been a bit busy making stuff and thought I'd post a few (dozen  ) pics.  You may need sunglasses for some of the following colour combinations .

Jewelry / Lots of Wire-work
« on: October 22, 2010, 02:58:30 PM »
I've been doing quite a bit of wire-wrapping lately as I have a craft show next month and wanted to use some of the Petoskey stones (and other corals) I've been polishing. So, here are a bunch of pics.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped Petoskey stone pendant. One of the many Petoskey stones I found during my family's camping trip. I hand-polished the Petoskey stone using abrasive papers ranging from 150 grit to 8,000 grit and used tin oxide for the final polish. Not one of the best examples of a Petoskey stone, but still an interesting one.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped fossilized coral pendant. The fossilized coral was one of many rocks found on my family's camping/rock-hounding trip. Also hand-polished.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped Variscite pendant. The stone is actually a bead rather than a free-form cabochon like I usually use, but I chose to wire-wrap it instead as it was too gorgeous of a stone to just use as a bead.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped pendant. Hand-polished (side-cut) honeycomb coral with pearl drop. The honeycomb coral is one of many pieces I found on my family's camping/rockhounding trip this year.

Sterling silver wire-wrapped pendant. Hand-polished Petoskey stone.

And I have a whole pile more of Petoskey stones and other corals to polish and wrap still! Lol, I brought back a couple pounds (literally; this is not an exaggeration) worth of rocks from that camping trip.
