Jewelry / "Trashy" Necklace!
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:35:57 PM »
This necklace is made entirely from stuff that was headed for the dump... The focal piece is the bottom of a reject pottery piece that I smashed and coarse tumbled, The wire is from the same potters house, (she is having the kitchen remodeled), and the wire is salvaged from the main power wire... (from the house built in 1952). The pattern of the chain is a four thousand year old design....

Jewelry / Kambaba Jasper
« on: January 03, 2012, 12:50:22 PM »
Here is my latest piece,
Kambaba jasper from Madagascar, and copper... all of the copper is  upcycled house wire and the copper sheet is an old backsplash tile. The patinia is a combo of heat and peanut oil...
Even the cord is a new old stock, plaited suede cord for a Bolo tie, with a hand made copper hook

Jewelry / Chrysoprase, Copper and Brass
« on: May 23, 2011, 11:13:13 AM »
This piece is made using a new technique I took a class to learn. The stone is considered  low grade Chrysoprase from Australia, but it has such beautiful patterning. The mounting is made from copper and brass with  silver rivets (some of it recycled)

Jewelry / Local Jade
« on: May 16, 2011, 08:57:38 PM »
Sorry for the cruddy pic but I sold this before I could photograph it and someone else took the pics.
the true color is varying shades of green and grey/green it looks like the inside of a wave. This pic makes it look yellow
This is a local jade from Coos County  Oregon, the  forest service office told the guy who has the claim that his mineral claim was invalid because it was not really jade so he sent in a sample to be chemically analyzed and it came back confirmed as Nephrite which is one of the two recognised forms of Jade (the other is jadeite)
It is wrapped in four lengths of 26 g gold filled wire, the chain is plated.

The stone is called Sonora Sunrise, it is from Mexico
It is comprised of Chrysocolla, Cuprite and Tenorite which are all copper ores. The bail is made of heavy embossed sterling silver and 16g half round silver.
the chain is Italian sterling silver.
The necklace is designed to be worn with either side showing.

Jewelry / Sunstone
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:13:41 PM »
This is a straw colored Sunstone I found near Lakeview Oregon a couple of years ago. The biggest I found so far, but I plan to visit the sunstone area this summer. It is tumble polished and wrapped with gold filled wire.
Sunstones are the Oregon state gem.
Also known as yellow labradorite
It is a form of feldspar

'Scuse the hair in the pic :P
