One thing I discovered for the nasty rainy days is streaming exercise video's on Netflix.   8)  I've never really been a fan of workout video's but some of the yoga/pilates combo's aren't half bad.

Three bits of advice from a fitness nut (I don't run marathons or anything 'really' crazy, but I'm pretty active and like to stay healthy).

1) Something my friends have luck with is picking local events and using those as motivation.  A 5k or a mini-tri or an organized bike ride, etc.  You just have to make sure you always keep one the list to do in the future.   ;)

2) Take a walk everyday.  The bonus here is that all you need is a comfy pair of shoes.  No icky gyms and no expensive equipment.  My motivation for daily walks is a psychotic 17-lb beastie who will eat my toes if I forget... a psychotic beastie of your own can be collected at the local animal shelter if that kind of equipment suits you.

3) My favorite exercise advice?  Ride a bike!  My husband and I took up mountain biking when we first met and I love it.  We even bought road bikes to 'stay in shape for mountain biking'.  (I will totally admit here that our yearly big vacation normally takes us to Moab Utah for a week of riding.  Yeah, okay, we're crazy.)

I worked at a bike shop for years and don't let anyone tell you that you need some fancy expensive bike.  The more you pay the less the bike weighs and that's something you can work up to.  Dust off the one in the garage, hit Craigslist, ask a friend... just make sure it's comfy to ride.  Oh, and wear a helmet pretty please.   8)

Now I want it to stop raining so I can go ride!  (It's our one concession over the years, no more nasty-weather-cold-n-wet rides)
