Site Support / Renew for Another Year?
« on: May 30, 2016, 10:21:10 AM »
I just got my renewal notice for another year.

I am successful on my regular site, Etsy and Amazon Handmade -- not so much here.

Can someone update me on the future of this site?  What improvements, general advertising and such are in the works?  My sense is that shoppers do not know this site even exists.    I need to decide whether to stay.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

I recently found out about crafters lounge.  It is a site that functions like pinterest, but is solely for handmade items.  You can pin items from here or from any site.    It is free - making its money from ads.  I have signed up and have started adding pins.  It is easy to use.  Check it out!

I have more listings to add, but it would be a huge job to do it manually.  Is it possible to upload an etsy export file?  I just can't remember from when I first did the listings here.

Handmade Highlights / Peek vs. Peak

Topic headline should be peek rather than peak --- just sayin...  ;)

Site Support / Tales from the First Sale - And Site Suggestion
« on: February 10, 2015, 08:47:45 AM »
I am happy to get my first sale from handmade artists -- but it has not been completely smooth sailing (or saling? :P !)

The item purchased is personalized and the customer did not know how to tell me the info I needed at time of sale to do the personalization.  So she just purchased it and hoped everything would somehow work out.

I emailed her numerous time and finally resorted to sending her a postcard with my contact info to try to get her attention.  She finally contacted me and we have the details worked out.

When the site is updated, perhaps a "message to seller" field could be added to cover situations like this.  It would save a lot of time and angst.

A customer has ordered a custom embroidered poem hankie for a ring bearer for a wedding, but has not supplied the names for the personalization.  I have emailed them twice now with no response.  Is there anything else I can do?  I am wondering if my emails are going to their spam folders.  Since they know the hankie is personalized, I cannot imagine how they expect it to just arrive somehow without the information I need.

This is my first order here and I want everything to go just right.

Site Support / First Sale - Problem with Getting Notice of Sale and More
« on: January 27, 2015, 10:26:31 AM »
I discovered somewhat by accident that I have my first sale.  Somehow I did not receive an email notification.  Is this normal?

I cannot tell from the pending order portal WHEN the order was placed

The customer's name is not displayed for purposes of shipping -- but rather the handmade artists user name only.

There was no note left by the buyer with the information I need for this custom personalized embroidered hankie that they ordered.  I immediately emailed them asking for this info.  Is there another way this could have or should have been handled?  Is there  a message to seller window for buyer's to use as they check out with their purchase?

Thanks for any help.  I want to handle this well.  I am familiar with the etsy process and feel just awful that I was not aware of this sale!

Here is a photo of my popular flowergirl hankie featuring a sweet poem in embroidered text that is delicate and proportional to the size of the hankie.

I am eager for the pin it button to appear so that individual item listings can be promoted on Pinterest?

Is there any progress toward that end?

General Discussion / Etsy Forum Muting for Mentioning Handmade Artists
« on: September 28, 2014, 04:31:53 PM »
I answered a direct question on the etsy forum and mentioned Handmade Artists.  I got muted by the Etsy Control Police - and so I can't post there for 7 days.

I see it as a form of civil disobedience and pushing back against heavy handed control of the etsy admin.  I am kind of proud of myself, actually.

It is no great loss from my perspective because the folks at the etsy forum need me a whole lot more than I need them!

General Discussion / Etsy success and waiting for first sale here
« on: August 08, 2014, 03:09:09 PM »
I am eager to hear if enhancements are afoot for promotion and new website advancements.  I have pretty good success on etsy, but have not been noticed here yet.   I am guessing that this site is just not a household name yet, but will be with time.  I have 1700 sales on etsy, so I know my items should sell....

In an ideal world, I would sell here instead of etsy for a whole range of reasons!

I am curious what others think.

Site Support / Trouble Adding Shop Link to Profile
« on: June 29, 2014, 08:02:45 AM »
I can't seem to find the handle/window to add my shop link to my profile.  Reports that people can't find my shop.

I don't see it under edit profile.

General Discussion / Etsy Forum Discussion of Handmade Artists

Etsy people discussing Handmade Artists

I posted this elsewhere here, but I think it is important enough to gain attention here.

I have read that listings on Handmade should be at least 30 percent different from listings of the same items on etsy for purposes of google and SEO and avoiding duplicate content problems.  How do we do that when the same information is necessary in both places?  Is it enough to change around the order in which the information is shown between the two sites?

Hoping people have some definitive answers on this one.  I don't want to create a problem for myself!
