Blog Ring Archive / Is this still up and running?
« on: March 01, 2011, 12:02:19 PM »
I see the last post was for February 12 and we haven't received a new person since; is this still up and running? I know my site hasn't been featured and there are a few others I have not featured yet as well. Does anyone know what has happened to the Blog Ring?

Hi everyone!

I am trying to find a pattern for the Knights of Columbus emblem to make as some sort of small scale tapestry. I have done some weaving, but up to this point I have always used patterns from books or free ones online. I have not been able to find a pattern for this emblem (not that I thought I would!), but I am also leery about designing my own since I have never done so. Does anyone have suggestions on where I could find a pattern or even tips for designing my own? I am actually trying to make this as a birthday gift for my father (his bday is still a few months out). Any help at all would be appreciated!! Here is the link to the emblem. Sorry i couldnt upload the image from my cell phone http://www.google.com/m/search?site=images&source=mog&hl=en&gl=us&client=safari&q=knights%20of%20columbus%20photo#i=0

Thanks!

Handmade Artists' Shop (HAFshop) / Steampunk Jewelry Inspiration?
« on: January 04, 2011, 07:54:16 PM »
I absolutely LOVE steampunk jewelry! I still remember the first piece of steampunk jewelry I saw that made me fall in love with the theme. The piece was a bracelet which had a modified pocket watch attached to it. The bracelet itself was a thick strap of leather which was roughly an inch or so thick. The watch had several gears on it with a compass spinner in the middle, and an eyeball mounted on the spinner... I fell in love. That one piece opened a new page for me. I began buying components and books and have made several pieces... all of which were not my own designs.

Each of the pieces I have constructed came from instructional books, but I cannot seem to find anything to inspire me enough to create my own designs... successfully. I spend hours playing with components and sketching, but my pieces almost seem to be lacking in affection. I hope that doesn't sound lame, but it is honestly the only way I can describe it. The steampunk jewelry I've made just doesn't seem to have feeling to it and appears rather dull.

I know a good amount about steampunk and I definitely know what is ideal for such pieces. I have SEVERAL items which would work GREAT in steampunk jewelry, but seem to lack the creativity to construct it. This is where my question comes in... for all of you who have constructed steampunk jewelry: what do you use as inspiration when you end up with 'jeweler's block'? I am open to any and all tips, tricks and comments. Help!  :o
