Good points. :) Thanks for the tips! We did manage to find a brand at our local Lowe's that was 100% lye (according to the container and the MSDS sheet). Roebic is the brand. Can't wait to try it out!

Hey everyone! My husband and I are finally getting into soap making (cut wood pieces for our molds the other day!), but we're wondering what is the best lye to use. Our local hardware store had what it said was 100% lye, but I've read that some bottles will say that, and then the MSDS information sheets will say something a little different. I couldn't find ingredients for that brand, so I didn't buy it (Betterbilt Chemicals, I believe was who made it). On Amazon, the top two seem to be Pure Lye (by ComStar, I think?) and Red Crown, but Red Crown is 98.5% sodium hydroxide, 0.5% sodium carbonate, and 1% inert ingredients (whatever that could be).

So, can anyone recommend a brand? Has anyone tried the brands I mentioned? And is it okay for lye to have that small amount of extra ingredients that the Red Crown brand has? Thanks!!

Hey everyone, I'm so glad to be back! I'm actually re-introducing myself here. I used to be on here all the time under the name "CraftedRoots". I can't figure out how to get back into that account, so I just made a new one. :) If you remember, I used to make macrame jewelry and my husband made pottery. Well, he still makes pottery, and we're beginning to make soap now (after talking about it for about 5 years :P)! I'm so glad to see this website is still around and thriving! I can't wait to get reacquainted with some of you and get to know the rest of you!

Hey guys!! Yeah, I know, it's been a while! :P After the baby arrived, life hasn't slowed down. I miss this place, though!!

So for Christmas I received supplies for metal stamping (little metal tags, a hammer, an anvil) and some jump rings and wire pliers and what-not. I would love any advice on how to use this stuff!! I've always wanted to try metal stamping, so I'm excited to test out my stuff. :D I just don't know where to start!

Also, any super exciting and amazing news I missed in the past seven months? :D
