The Bully Project - Important Info
« on: February 28, 2012, 11:54:55 AM »
Not the happiest of subjects - but I really want to share this with everyone - especially after what happened yesterday -
http://www.thebullyproject.com/#
There are 2 (that I know of) petitions to get this movie rerated from an R to a PG-13 please help support this cause.
http://www.change.org/petitions/mpaa-dont-let-the-bullies-win-give-bully-a-pg-13-instead-of-an-r-rating

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/911/petition-to-overrule-the-mpaas-decision-to-give-bully-an-r-rating/

and I admit, it's also because my wonderful grandson puts up with being harrassed on almost a daily basis, from being called "China Lady.................." being shoved in his locker, being tripped and then the kid putting his foot on his hair, called stupid, .you get the idea.
Thank you
Kris

Thanks for posting this Lisian. That heartbreaking tragedy yesterday happened 20 miles from me. I'm sorry your grandson has to deal with the bullying, how is it kids are becoming so relentlessly mean these days? While of course I haven't seen that movie yet I'd bet it would be good to have it re-rated as they are trying to do and be shown in at least all high schools.

Signed...we have dealt with it against my son and it just rips kids apart.  Administration has rules in place, but the red tape mean the harassment goes on while they "investigate."  In the end...the kid suffers and nothing is ever really done.

I got an email about this and posted it to my FB (as well as signing the petition).  As a former victim myself, this is a big issue for me.

I was talking to my son today about this and really have to say that it is so much worse than when I was growing up...meaner somehow.  Either that or I have blocked a lot of stuff out.

People say that, but I got it pretty severely.  I had black eyes, was whaled in the stomach, stabbed with a pin (this was before HIV would've caused a riot), had my books stolen & clothing destroyed, threats, rumors, got shoved off the curb into the parking lot when the bus was coming.  I was regularly ganged up on by a horde of bully girls at one time.  I had to switch Hebrew schools.  And my parents went to the teachers, bus driver, school disciplinarian, guidance counselor, principal, board of ed, and town cops, all to no avail.

I think years ago this was looked upon as kids being kids kinda stuff. But I know when I was a kid, it went on, but never to this degree. It was mostly verbal (not that that is any better). I got a good bit of that myself. My kids got picked on for stuff too. But once again, nothing like this stuff.
I signed the petitions and shared them. This really must be addresses as a serious issue and not swept aside anymore. Not when it's taking lives.

Supposedly NJ now has the strongest anti-bullying laws in the country.  They just need to be enforced.

I really hope I end up a teacher, because I won't stand for ANYTHING.

I hope you do too...the problem isn't really the teachers.  I sent many down to the office for bullying, and they were back in a matter of minutes with a big smile after a short lecture.  The problem is administration and fear of the parents questioning them.  A lot of teachers have just given up.

Thanks for posting Kris… I am saddened to hear about everyone’s bulling stories.

John (hubby) taught an Alternative Education Class for about 4 years, in Buena Park. CA. One of the toughest gang affiliated places in Southern California.

John saw his fair share of bullying, which he did not put up with… He set the rules and if you chose not to follow, off to Juvenile Hall because they had to be in school until they are 18.

Teachers and Parents can only do so much.  In John’s case, the gang was number one over their families.  You mess with one gang member-you mess with the entire gang. That’s why they bully and no one fights back.

I signed the petition... Awareness is a start.

Thank all of you.
Wow Larrissa!

I don't know what the answer is.
I don't totally blame the teachers they have a lot to deal with.   Gangs in many places are a big problem.
It is people like you  here that keep me believing that there is good.
