Color Choices - your input is greatly appreciated!
« on: December 16, 2012, 02:56:08 PM »
Last weekend my grandson informed me that his little sister (almost 3) wants a stuffed pony for Christmas.  finally got a pattern for one - but here's the tricky part she wants one that is red, green and pink!
I thought ok, that can be done - just need the right colors.  Without buying more material - something I don't need - this is what I came up with.

1.

2.

3.

4.
or
5.

For some reason the pink doesn't show up very well on the red, one is a light pink, the other is a darker pink.  My sewing machine has a variety of patterns - not really embroidery - which I thought about dong by hand, but at this pint I don't have time to hand embroider it.   So I was thinking about sewing the patterns on the red and green in pink, she also loves flowers.

I also have pics of a light green corduroy with the red and pinks but I like the darker green - it's a suede cloth and the red is flannel.

what do you think???? or none of the above?
Thanks for any input!

Kris, I like combo 3 & 4, either one would work up well, and give a nice contrast.

4 is the one I like the best. That's quite a color combo to work with. ;D

I like 3 and 4 as well.  I think I like 3 better than 4.  But the idea of the pink embroidery is very good too.  Since I guess it is for Christmas, which one is the easier to do, the material or the embroidery.  Since I know nothing about machine embroidery.

Ok we have 2 votes for #4, 1 for #3 and one for the pink "embroidery" on the red & green.  I probably should explain that my idea with sewing the pink on the red and green was to do it all over or to make it like a saddle.

Thank you for your input ladies!

lo well, no real consensus here! I had to get this started - and after getting my red yarn out, I figured out the bright red flannel wasn't going to work!
Oh I wish I had a real embroidery machine - but unfortunately it's not!  But it does do these cool little decorative stitches!  The pattern goes together a little differently than I thought it did - which is cool and honestly the way it's worded I thought it went together differently than it does - so I switched to using the green for the entire body except for a small piece in the middle of the head & the inside of the ears - and doing the pink decorative stitch on the back & legs.  I was afraid it was going to look more like a clown the way it's worded! lo - so now I'll know for next time!

I'll post pics when it's done!
Appreciate the input everybody!  Thank you!

Lo Monika that's cool!  The pony is put together - finally! but I can't find the fiberfill!!!!! so I have to go get some!  It's going to be a small miracle if these kids get their Christmas presents on time!

Re: Color Choices - The green, pink & red pony, Streak, is DONE!
« Reply #12 on: December 20, 2012, 01:37:59 AM »
Finally "Streak" (my name for her) is done!

A few mistakes led to some embellishments to cover them up!  I had put the yarn on  a  piece of material with Heat n bond - but - accidentally got it ironed on the neck in the wrong place - too far out, so to cover up the "glue" that I couldn't get off, I put the buttons on.  and while putting those on - I noticed that part of one ear and where the head comes together with the red and cream colored part didn't get done quite as well as I had thought!  So I stitched those up by hand after she had been stuffed with the fiberfill I had to go get.

This pattern was frustrating - what they were calling the front is actually the underside! No, wonder I was having a hard time visualizing how this went together before I had the pieces cut out! I tend to get a bit dyslexic especially when I'm tired, but I guess it wasn't all me!

She has very little red - just the piece in the front of the head and the yarn in the tail & mane.
I hope little Miss Evie loves her!

I love how this pic came out!

She is adorable.  I like the choice of having the three colors in the yarn.  I think you covered her wish list.
