Cutting Boards
« on: May 17, 2016, 10:40:51 PM »
So every time I turn around, my husband comes out with a new talent.  He's the one who got me into making candles and soap.  Now he's started knifemaking.  But until he masters that, he's making beautiful hardwood cutting boards.  This is his first, from maple and black walnut; it's 13" x 8" and about an inch thick, not including the feet.  I love it so much!

Eric made a new one, and he listed this one for sale!  Maple, walnut, and purpleheart.

Thanks!  Be careful with those plastic ones... once they get too nicked they don't really get clean and breed bacteria.  Treat them as pretty disposable.

And another he finished tonight - it's maple and purple heart, and I love it.  13.75" x 11.75"

He's got a site now:  www.bladesandboard.com

And he did an end grain checkerboard BIG cutting board in maple & walnut, plus I got a good photo of his cutting board wax, based with beeswax.

So he did a bunch of boards for the show we did last weekend.  The ones below are my favorites - cherry and walnut in a funky pattern, maple and cherry for a huge carving board, and cherry with a zebrawood stripe.  I love the zebrawood, but it's insanely expensive.

He's also got a lathe now, and has been doing wine bottle stoppers; this one's maple and purpleheart.  He's doing butter and cheese knife handles too, but those haven't been quite successful yet - the wood had cracks and wasn't suitable.  It's such a great use for all the scrap wood from his boards.

Yup, no scratching of counters.  Though there's only one with feet left now.

So, he's still doing cutting boards, but he's moved past that too.  Bowls, pens, cigar cases...
