A Venture In Mosaics
« on: February 09, 2014, 01:52:25 PM »
I've been renovating this house for a LOOOOOONG time. Pretty much gutted the joint. I redid the fireplace, new handmade mantle, added stone above, widened the whole thing (it's now 9 and a half feet long) and added 2 shelving units on each side - the last thing needed was the surround, I ventured into Monika's world and did a mosaic. Here is a before and after.

The only mosaics this girl will ever be doing will be for personal use only! I got my fill with this. And thank you so much, means a lot to hear such nice words from the Mosaic Queen herself!!

So I am curious, what did you use, obviously it looks like a green meadow with flowers, beach and ocean....did you use Smalty for the flower specks, Millefiori or what?
Regular broken crockery, china, porcelain, Vitreous Tiles???

Spill it girl.... :D :D

Thanks all!
Monika, I have been collecting dishes broken or not etc. for a few years knowing this was what I was going to do on the fireplace surround, plus I have a friend that has part interest in a pottery studio, she just put containers for potters to put broken or things that didn't come out of the kiln right and I ended up with 4 large plastic totes full of gorgeous wonders. The flower specks were just red and/or yellow plates.
I still have tons left - the husband will NOT be liking the idea of me shipping that stuff with our household goods to Belize but that's too bad, ALL my art supplies will be going....or he's going without me....chances are 100% that I'll get my way.

Oh, you lucky girl you, having such connections.....and I am sure hubby will abide by your wishes.... ;D ;D ;D
Are you hoping to do something in Belize? I mean that beautimus Island lends itself to
mosaic-ing some part of your home that surrounds you......
But then again, I don't know nothing....nada, zero....was so surprised by your talent.... :D

I hope to do an entryway wall at the start of the driveway and perhaps part of the floor on the rooftop terrace. We shall see where I'm most inspired to put one :)

you should have seen my husbands face when I told him a few days ago that the totes with the broken pottery will be shipping with our household goods...I may just get committed before ever leaving the country
