On this 5.5" x 8.5" handbound journal is a hand embroidered pair of trees with their roots entwined into the shape of a heart. The pattern is not my original design but can be found at urbanthreads.com (permission for use is granted on their site). When I saw it I immediately thought to stitch it on a piece of national park map fabric I had left over from a previous custom order I did.   

Inside I have bound 200 pages (front & back) of alternating lined (120) and unlined (80) pages. The lined paper is white 20# text weight paper and the unlined is premium 80# white drawing paper excellent for pencil, colored pencil and charcoal also good for pen and ink, marker and oil pastels. They have been long stitched with matching tan handwaxed cotton thread, the exposed threads on the spine have been gathered at 4 places. This method of binding allows for the book to lie nicely open to make working in comfortable.
