General Discussion / Re: What makes you happy?

That fire looks so cozy! I miss my fireplace, but hopefully someday will have one again.

I get very happy when I'm able to tackle DIY projects, and I knocked out 2 over the weekend. The pole in my 'big' closet had fallen, and I finally got what I needed and had the energy to fix that, plus was able to borrow a lopper and lop some web worms out of the tree out back that abuts my balcony, yay. I love the sense of accomplishment from being able to successfully complete tasks.

It is freezing out today so my fire makes me happy....well happy and able to work without turning on the heat or my fingers falling off!

Hi Teresa, I hope the new venture (putting items in your friend's shop) is going well, and hope hubby finds a good job that he loves soon. States usually regulate trades,(and, of course, there's always the Better Business Bureau.) As you said, y'all can handle the cold, but someone else might not be able to, so maybe check with the state regulations/licensing board about the issue. Hope it's all resolved soon.

Popped by to see what's up. On my end, we are still trying to complete our conversion from propane to natural gas. The company we have used for years for HVAC has really dropped the ball on this. We had been playing phone tag with them for well over a month, finally got the "right" people to come last Thursday to run the pipe, etc. Well they got it ALL wrong so we failed inspection. They didn't get back until Monday to replace/repair what they had screwed up. They were trying to charge us to correct their mistake. Put our collective feet down on that one! here it is now Thursday, and they still don't have our furnace connected. It's been in the 40's most nights and no heat. Fortunately we can handle the cold, but a week! Furious to say the least. On the flip side, the guy from the gas company came out to hook up our stove. Nicest guy, very professional and got it done in no time. In fact I sent his company an email stating that so he gets some credit for doing a good job. I'm done with my little rant. ::)
I'm making stuff for my upcoming "show" at Karma next month. We (the owner and me) are having our jewelry out on Friday and Saturday  (7th and 8th) during First Friday in Mebane. She says she gets a lot of traffic through the restaurant for that event, so I'm hoping I sell some stuff. It's free for me, so I have nothing to lose.
Hubby has several shows coming up as well and these he generally does well at. Also applying for jobs everyday. He's looking here and in the Chicago area. I just hope he finds something that he loves.
Tomorrow we plan on taking a drive to the mountains to see the colors and have a little break. We will take our dogs and make a day of it. Should be sunny and low 70's.
Later gators!

I'd love to learn about that someday, when things slow down. When I was a kid, we always visited old time places like Plimouth Plantation, Strawberry Banke, etc., and I loved seeing the history.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of presenting a class at a local college on flax processing.
My son went to help juggle all the equipment, we took raw and retted flax, the flax brake, a scutching board, assorted hetchels, and spinning wheel with distaff! and showed and let the class try it, to see the progress of flax into linen yarn. It's fun sharing knowledge of the past.
Today I'm thankful I don't have to make all our clothes that way!

I love the Fall weather. The pollen is killing the kitties and me right now, but hopefully soon, we'll be able to go outside and open the windows! I love the brilliant sunshine on a cool day, when I can go out and enjoy nature and fresh air.

 Thanks for making me laugh, Marty! It's amazing how immature some can be. IMO the handmade community should work together and promote everyone, as well as the community, artists, and processes. Many there don't seem to feel that way, though.

I just read your  entire post about the  7 day muting.  Do you have to go to court or pay a fine?   Maybe they work out of Juvvy  court.   Soooooooo childish!!!!
What  ever happened to freedom of speech.   Isn't that one of the big four?
Tell all your friends......

General Discussion / Re: Paypal for shipping at Home
« on: October 26, 2014, 11:58:42 AM »
I almost always print postage from home via PayPal. I use the cheapest printer paper from Walmart, and I *gasp* tape over the whole label, and have never had an issue. I've had problems in the past where the ink has run, or labels torn, so I'm not taking any chances. Even though you can't schedule a pick up for Domestic first class shipping, the mail lady still picks it up, as long as it's in the box and the flag is up, but for International First Class, you can schedule a pick up, which is nice. I'm not that far from the post office, so sometimes I will run the package there, but in my experience, it seems to take just as long, if not longer, when I do that.

It seems to be popular these days to disparage the police, but here's an uplifting story of how one officer went way above what many people would have done:

Thanks, Sandi, it seems everyone else & I accidentally deleted ours! I don't like that extension wording, it's a bit worrisome... and, so glad you like the highlight, I love making them!

Shoot, that's one reason I stopped selling on eBay, they were holding my money for up to 21 days, because I wasn't a high volume seller. I think I accidentally deleted the PayPal updated notices email. Is this for everyone, or just new accounts?

Good morning!  I just finished reading the Paypal policy updates and am not happy.  It concerns me that under the new policies, a customer will now have 180 days (that's 6 months!) to file a refund request for "item not as described."  Six MONTHS???!!!  I thought 45 days was exhorbitant!  They've also now included custom orders in this buyer protection clause.

This really worries me.  I sell something and six months later, the customer gets a refund?  Is it just me?  What do all of you think?

It's really astounding that so many have forgotten the past, and, as a result, we'll be repeating it, at least in part. I hope things don't get too ugly, but it's sure looking that way. It's not just Germany, either, but many other countries, as well. I try to share related info on my social sites to educate those who are unaware, because it doesn't seem to be getting the press attention it should, at least here in the U.S.

I do not wish to get political on here, but my heart is so heavy about my German folks, the generation after me, are anti-Semitic again. It saddens me greatly that on Yom Kippur the synagogues in Europe have to be protected by police so it can be celebrated.
What happed! The generation after me has not learned in school how horrible the holocaust was? With the influx of certain immigrated people the hate is alive again.

How horrible is that, my heart is heavy, bleeding and ashamed....those are not the German People I know.

So glad I'm not the only one happy to see Summer end. I also have issues with temperature extremes, which is one reason I moved from the cold northeast, but now I'm stuck with the long, hot Texas summers! Now that it's going to be a little cooler, and the local kids are back in school, I can visit my little beach and parks/trails, and relax in nature, yay. I went to the park and beach both the other day, even though it was still very hot. I didn't have my decent cam, only my ipod, but will see if I can post a pic or two, if I can find them. I get very energized in the Fall, it's my favorite season, with family birthdays and holidays coming, and lots of cooking and baking, since the weather will be cooler.

What makes me happy....
Chocolate!!! The beach...and, the end of Summer.
I know, I know and believe me, I do feel bad for being happy about summer ending, but I'm always just as happy for the end of Winter as well. My body does not like extreme temperatures, hot or cold. I've been this way since I was a kid. Pass out from Summer heat, hands and feet aching from Winter cold. I'm happiest in the Fall and Spring. Sadly though, I live in North  Carolina where those are the shortest of our seasons, LOL,

What else makes me happy - my grandchildren, good books (Fantasy Genre) and the fact that the next season of Doctor Who comes back tomorrow night with a new Doctor!!!!

Oh, have I ever mentioned here that despite being almost 55 years old, I'm a total geek and have been known to 'fan-girl' with the best of them?

Thanks for posting, words are great, as well as pictures! So happy that people are posting here :).

I don't have pictures, but music, my animals, and finishing a project make me happy.  Sales are always good for a happy mood, too.
