General Discussion / artisit spotlight...Tara
« on: May 26, 2012, 08:10:56 AM »
I featured a young woman named Tara on my blog today.  She is desperately looking for a job (for over a year now) and also trying to support herself with handmade.  Please take a peek, and hit the twitter and facebook share button.  I would greatly appreciate it, and so would she.  Oh yeah, she's my son's girlfriend, but I'm not playing favorites,  ;)

General Discussion / artfire vs zibbet
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:44:16 PM »
I need some advise....who has an artfire and/or zibbet shop?  Which one is better?  I have a shop on Zibbet right now, but for $9 a month, they don't have a lot of apps (like a widget to put my shop on my blog).

Business Tips and Help / how to take better pictures
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:57:39 AM »
I just finished making my first Highlights here and while I found so many wonderful items, I had difficulty finding enough of the "theme" items I wanted because way too many item pictures are not very good.  If you are spending the time to create wonderful items, and then listing them, you really need to spend the time to take really good pictures if you want to increase your sales.  Here's some tips...
1) many pictures are just way too dark.  if possible, take the pictures outside in natural light.  If you can't go outside, use a light box and overhead lamp instead of your built in flash.  And then edit your picture in picassa, or whatever photo program you have on your computer.
2) get good close ups, use the macro setting on your camera if you can.  and use the timer so after you push the shutter button, you will have a second or two for the camera to stop shaking before taking the picture.
3) get creative, don't always take the pictures dead front and center.  try to take some at an angle, and use other items to set the scene.  do not use a busy background, solid light backgrounds, or solid flat black, works best.
4) crop!!! and crop slightly offcenter and watch the pixel size so your items will show off better in the thumbnails.
5) you don't need an expensive camera...but try to use something better then your cell phone.
Hopefully these tips will encourage you to really show off your creative talents, and increase your sales.
