General Discussion / Re: Need advise

I agree with those who say to report her to Amazon for fraudulently opening an account.  Also advice to just cancel the whole order to prevent more problems from her...changed my mind about the shipping since she will most likely continue to complain no matter what you do.  I agree with CherokeeLodge about the 100% up front before even purchasing materials and no refunds for custom work.

Monika,

I would not ship until all of the money is in your bank; then close the Amazon account.  I would also be wary of her trying to do a charge back to try to get something for nothing after you ship.  Make sure you have tracking and maybe also have signature confirmation to be safe.  That woman has scam written all over her.  I would not deal with her again.  She made you jump through hoops to do things her way, which is wrong.  The buyer sure wouldn't try to tell the big box stores how to take payment or tell them they have to take a certain kind of payment that they don't accept.

I put my two cents in on the threads.  You are so right about those sellers Andrew.  It's like comparing a small business to large corporation, which Etsy is.  You also can't compare this site to a site that has been around longer.  Those people have no clue.  They really are the Etsy diehards and had no intention of putting any effort into this site in the first place it seems.  It seems all they want to do is complain about this site in the Etsy forums.  But if they complain, we will ask them how much effort they put into it and throw it back at them. :)

General Discussion / Re: So Many Views...No Sales

I've been thinking about this even more, as it burns me up in a sense, as they come in for 2 months, leave and say they get no sales. Yet all they have been doing is giving attention to their etsy shop and none to here. But yet it is our fault not theirs, and then run back to etsy and post on the forums that I had a shop there, what a waste, didn't sell a thing. Yet they did nothing.

The funny thing is you can look through etsy shops all day with no sales, they do put the work in it. Then there are tons of shops with plenty of sales, they obviously put effort into their shop..
Sorry to vent, but this last etsy rush we had over the last few months, went as fast as it came.
I guess that is the test 2 months then leave and complain.
Very strange, but it is what a whole bunch of vendors just did, it is very unfortunate and quite disappointing.
I really look at the vendors here as our investors, that is why we work so hard as we feel you are our bosses. We got contacted by another investment company last week.

What should we do, take the money? Or believe in those who believe in us.

We need to multiply the number of vendors we have by 10 or 20 times the amount to hit a great stride, but there is only so much we can do with what we have.
So one foot in front of another......

I have  seen those same posts, Andrew, and it burns me up too.  They put this site down when they do nothing to promote it or their shops here.  All they seem to care about is their Etsy shop.  If I see that in the Etsy forums, I can't keep quiet...I have to say something about their attitude.  I may not catch all of them, but I have my say when I see them.

My idea in coming here was to eventually get off of Etsy.  After I saw views coming to my Etsy shop from here, I took the link off of my profile.  I want it to go the other way around, but that is not allowed in Etsy.  The best I could do if I have multiples of some items is to list in my Etsy listing that I have more of the sam on another site and to contact me for more information.  I also have in the shop intro that I have more items on another site and to contact me for information.  I had one Etsy customer from last year contact me on Etsy about a birthday present for the same person this year, and I let her know I had much more on this site.  She was looking for something other than the items I had on Etsy.  She ended up buying one of my pasta bowls and, hopefully, she will come back to this site in the future.

I was able to track my Canada order on the Canada Post website using the customs number.  That was great since in the U.S. it didn't get scanned after it left the local sorting location.  It's still on its way...last scan was in Ottawa.  Still keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't get hung up in customs.

I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of how much it will cost to ship to each international region for the shipping methods I would use.  I add in postage, packaging expenses, insurance, and Paypal fees to get the total I need to charge.  You can use 1st Class International for up to four pounds, but you can't print the label online unless you pay for one of the subscription services.  I used the USPS software to print the label in order to get the commercial rate but had to pay for it at the PO, which I prefer not to do since I don't want to mix personal and business funds.  International priority is really expensive and, from what I have read, does not get there any quicker than the less expensive 1st Class.  I have attached the spreadsheet I downloaded from the USPS site that has all the prices on it, both retail and commercial.

I looked at my copies of Schedule C, and I used the code for Other direct selling under the Nonstore Retailers section.    The number is 454390.

Pam, My business is set up as an LLC, single member.  I can file a Schedule C with my personal taxes.

Those on Etsy don't seem to realize that many of them are paying Etsy a lot more than $5.00 a month.  Just put my two cents in again over there. :)

Congratulations on the sales, Monika!

Andrew, I know what you mean about the negative people on Etsy.  There's always at least one very negative one chiming in on the HandmadeArtists threads.  Makes me want to take out my baseball bat.   :police: :)

The new site sounds great...can't wait to see it!

The order to Canada is on its way.  Now I will keep my fingers crossed it makes it through customs and to the buyer in a reasonable amount of time.

Thunderstorm here and a LOT of rain...just in time for the weekend.  My son has been in the gardening mood and is in the process of making raised beds and also planting some berries.  I hope it dries out enough for him to do more on it this weekend.  I'm glad to have him interested in something constructive...as long as my yard and the drainage on that side of it into the neighbor's yard, which is on a lower level than ours, is still ok when he is done. :)

I just put my two cents in at the Etsy thread.  The nerve of some people!  Just my opinion, but we really don't need people with nasty attitudes here. :)

No problem Beth.  Paypal has first class domestic, but not international.  The USPS software works well for printing, but you have to pay for it at the post office.  I can use it for the shipping methods that I can't print online, although I don't like paying in personal funds and adding more personal funds to the business capital account...want to pay business expenses with business income and not keep putting more personal funds into the business...do that enough with supplies.

I will have the postal worker check it when I take it there today.  It's convenient to have a tiny PO branch on the lower level where I work.  Thanks for the congrats!

I have heard about the Etsy shipping offering first class international, but I don't use their shipping since I don't use their payment system.  Also, this order was on HandmadeArtists, not Etsy.

I always print the shipping labels to get the commercial rate, but there is not a place to do that for first class international unless you pay for a website like stamps.com.  I looked on PayPal, but they only have domestic first class.  I'll try the software from the USPS and see how that goes.  I hope that one prints it all on one paper too.

Thanks to the congrats too!

I usually take my packages to the very small post office branch on the lower level of the building I work in, so I may let them attach the form.  Is the customs form separate from the shipping label?  I have seen differing opinions on international shipping, so I wanted to make sure I got it right.

I didn't see first class international in the PayPal options, but I will look again.  I have the downloadable USPS software which has first class international as an option, but i don't think you can pay through that.  It just prints out the label and I think custom form and you pay for it at the post office.  I have not used it yet.  I always put the invoice inside the package in case the outside label gets messed up.

Thank you for your help.  I usually ship the next day, but I told the customer I will ship within the next couple of days just to give myself time to get everything together.
