That has been the BEST discovery for me! I am so enjoying the 'back and forth' - as I am pretty alone in my circle as the 'crafty' one, and people's eyes glaze over when I start waxing eloquent on the wonders of Delica beads or learning how to make glass, here I don't feel odd!

I wondered the same thing about products going away 'cause other stuff has replaced it.
However, the DecoArt Clear varnish is doing a super thin coat on both sides gives the ribbons a lot more body....good thing that! So, I'm not spending any more time looking for the polish. This works fine

Also, my .5mm leather cord (can't believe I actually found this!) is on its way - should be here I'll be able to see if the newly 'firmed up' ribbons will make the tiny cord hang straight!

Got more solutions for more products....have to find time to get some photos so I can let y'all see them!

Thanks for all the suggestions....great to NOT feel alone in my endeavors here!

Sorry to be SO long in updating my hunt. Went looking for the polish....and still don't know if it would have worked - I simply could not find it....
So...back to thinking on it....and I brought out my adhesives to read up on how they act. Mod Podge wouldn't be workable, as it needed another top coat after using. Liquid glass...nope didn't read like it would work. Then I got out my DecoArt DuraClear varnish - gloss. This read like it would work.
Tried it, and though it wasn't adding a whole lot of weight, it did give my ribbons MUCH more body, and also sealed the thread used to make them - and it was still flexible enough to make the curved fold-over to make the ribbon shape. Liked the effect very much! So now I'm doing that to all my awareness jewelry.

As to weight....found a supplier of 1mm leather cord- only could find 2mm before, and am going to order some - see if the small diameter cord will be held straight even with my little bead ribbons.

Still working.....and meantime, I re-did the entire beadblessed website, and spent a day recovering from a computer virus that deleted an entire website that I host and maintain....what a shocker that was! Been quite a time.....hoping now that things will calm down enough to get back into the crafting routine.

Wow! Great minds, or something like that! I read the same thing, and have it on my list to buy so I can try it! Thanks so much for thinking of me when you read it!

Will let you all know if it helps....can't wait to try it!

Sorry for the tardy reply - I do appreciate your suggestions....and have been wracking my brain to come up with ideas....thinking maybe vintage-type bead frame...
Thanks for giving me a new avenue to explore!

I appreciate you're looking and replying.
Thinking I'll just not offer a necklace at all - and just offer the charm.

I know that sounds weird, but I still want to solve it.
I make awareness ribbons from Delica  beads. These are little - about an inch long, and are suspended on a sterling jump ring that is big enough to put the ribbon on most any kind of necklace.
My original idea was to put them on leather cord. But the cord (at least what I've used) needs some weight on it to hang straight, and these little pendants weigh next to nothing.
Any ideas on what I could do to give this pendant more weight without adding hugely to the cost?
Here's a photo (I hope - never done this before here)
Nope - didn't work...hoping it works as an attachment.

In case that doesn't work - here's the URL..

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me?!

Very nice! I love the colors too! I've tried and failed at this - it is so cool to see someone who does it right!

I had never used bright aluminum rings before, and really wasn't sure about them - but once I did - wow - LOVE them! Here is a bracelet I made using them - I think they are 1/4" (can't remember the mm). They weigh next to nothing, but they move with my slightest movement - really like that!

Anyone else into aluminum?

Comments appreciated....really needing some feedback!   :-\

Jewelry / I love me some tiny rings...
« on: May 16, 2009, 06:14:22 PM »
Here is one of my favorite weaves (byzantine) done with tiny frosted blue niobium rings. I love the tiny size - all my friends think I am some kind of nut to use the bitty rings - but they please me!

Comments appreciated!

Hi, my name is Trish, and I am the proud owner of Studio 2:14.
I have been a crafter since forever, and think I've tried them all, right up til I find a new one, and have to try it out!

I love chainmaille, but have run into the "dollar" wall - haven't sold anything, so I can't afford to get more rings - so am kinda at a standstill on it. Meantime, I'm working with beads, wire, paper - anything I can find that I already have!

Looking for some great conversation and support...and this looks like a good start!
