This was discussed in chat last night, but I can't find a thread for it anywhere on the board. Can someone point me towards any information on this?

General Discussion / Google Syndication and Item Feed - Important Info for Etsy Sellers!
« on: December 05, 2009, 02:51:48 PM »
First off, check to see if your shop has a syndication feed or not here: http://www.etsy.com/syndication.php. It'll either say "active" or "pending." If you're pending, keep checking back till you're in active status. (Of course, Etsy hasn't given any real timeline for getting everyone inserted, they just say it'll be "over the course of the next months")
Then, if you're active, in "your etsy", use the "select all" and "deactivate" buttons at the bottom of each page of your shop, then "select all" again and "activate". And all your items are magically inserted. Just takes once - you don't have to do this for renews or new listings, as that's automatic, but your older listings aren't there yet.

General Discussion / Parasol feature
« on: December 05, 2009, 02:27:08 PM »
Back in the beginning of September, I was contacted by a photographer asking about using one of my parasols in a photoshoot, with a feature on her website and an article in an indie bride blog to follow. I checked her out, verified it was legit, so sent her one of my pieces. The shoot got delayed by a month because of one of the designers, but it finally took place and she sent me the link to her website page yesterday. The photographer is Caroline Ghetes and I've got a bit in my blog about it here. The feature in Ruffled is supposed to be on Monday.
Oh, and I just broke 6000 hits on my blog!

General Discussion / Times article - Why Big Shopping Bargains are Bad News for America
« on: November 29, 2009, 02:29:00 PM »
The price wars have gone nuclear. From Target's $3 coffeemakers to Best Buy's half-price stoves to Staples's $300 laptops, the theme of this holiday shopping season is, without a doubt, "we sell for less." Even Wal-Mart's commitment to "every day" low prices isn't preventing it from going lower. An online skirmish with Amazon.com that started with $9 hardcover books (books normally sold for three times that amount) has dominoed into other categories, driving down prices on everything from mobile phones to Easy-Bake ovens. The deals are everywhere. (See pictures of expensive things that money can buy.)
Well, pardon my saying so, but I don't want them. I don't want to pay less. If anything, I'd rather pay a little more.
Crazy talk, I know. Where is this coming from? Well, it began with some reading I've been doing about the trade-offs we make for ultra-cheap goods — the child workers in Bangladesh who sew our clothes and brush their teeth with ash since they can't afford toothpaste, the oceanic dead zones that come with $5 factory-farmed salmon filets. They're the sorts of stories that make a person think that buying carts full of cheap stuff — ensuring the production of even more cheap stuff — shouldn't be the social goal we've made it out to be.
And I put a few of my thoughts on the subject in my blog.

General Discussion / New Gift Guide Button
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:57:04 PM »
(In case you hadn't noticed) Now on every single screen on Etsy, including inside your shop, is this bright orange Gift Guide button to take customers away from your items. What do you think of this? Just curious.

General Discussion / cr8tivity.com - tool for Etsy users
« on: October 19, 2009, 03:38:02 PM »
Just found out about this website through one of my teams:
http://cr8tivity.com/
Enter in your shop name in the box on top on the home page. I just put the shop widget on my blog, much more useful than the Etsy mini.
