Title: Beaded Jewelry - Crochet Versus Knotting
Post by: CrayonJungle on March 05, 2013, 03:55:18 PM
I'm new to beaded crochet jewelry and I'm considering looking into doing knotted beaded jewelry instead. I found the book I want to buy but whenever I look at materials I get overwhelmed. It looks like I need to order most of the materials online.

I want to get 1 to 1.5 or even 2 mm in size and I'm trying to decide between leather, satin cord or should I go with something else?

Can I use cotton yarn or embroidery floss or does it need to be leather or satin?

Any other tips?

TIA!

Hi, Melanie, Could I ask what is the usage of your versus knotting? For bracelet or necklace or something not for wearing? If I know it, it would be better to chose the right cord. I have ever used cotton yarn, it would be Ok, as for embroidery, I haven't used it yet, but guess you can have a try on it, perhaps it is a good chose as well. Some website such as Fire Mountain, Pandahall, Artbeads and so on all can have the string & thread materials for your beading works. Hope you would have great fun in beading projects.

Hi!

I would be using it for wrap bracelets and possibly necklaces as well. I did end up ordering some satin cord as well as some leather so I could try different things and see what I like. I enjoy the crocheting with beads but I think maybe knot tying might be easier and more versatile for jewelry.

I had a seller at my store who used rayon rattail cord for her bracelets.l
