The Reason We Walk

A little over a year ago, Jim and I sat in a small room, Olivia next to us, and Dr. D.told us, "the blood tests show Leukemia".  A couple days later, after many more tests, transfusions, surgery, and many tears, they confirmed that Olivia has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). About to turn 3, our little Olivia started her own walk down the road to recovery; a long, chemotherapy regimen that she won't complete until she is five.
We are one year past her diagnosis, Olivia is in remission, and we are delighted to say that we have found a new "normal," for our family. We are so thankful, every day, that decades of medical research and the struggles of so many kids before her, have paved the way for ALL to be cureable. Olivia is now thriving and we are so very proud of how brave and patient she has been over the past year while she endured the toughest part of her journey.  Cancer has not defined her and chemo has not broken her spirit.  She is a happy, healthy-appearing, about to be 4 year old who runs us ragged. We could not possibly ask for more.
Except that, we will ask for more! Since her remission, we feel such a debt of gratitude that we must give back. We must give thanks for the medicine and the research that has let us keep our daughter, in the face of such a deadly disease.  We, personally, have benefited in countless ways from the work done by CureSearch. This foundation is responsible for funding research that has had a direct impact on increasing survival rates and quality of life for pediatric cancer patients. As recently as 40 years ago, Olivia would not have survived leukemia. Thanks, in part, to research done by CureSearch, she now has over an 80% chance of survival.
The CureSearch Walk honors and celebrates children whose lives have been affected by children’s cancer, so that one day, every child diagnosed with cancer will be guaranteed a cure.
The money our team raises will support this non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support targeted and innovative children’s cancer research, with measurable results. In addition, they are the authoritative source for information resources about children's cancer for families and their support systems.
Seven of the 36 children diagnosed every day do not survive. Please, support our team as we participate in the CureSearch Walk, and help change the odds for those children most at risk
Please take a moment to donate to our team and help finance a cure.  If you would like to walk with us we would love to have you along!  Share this with your friends and family and help us help a bit.
