Question for Steampunk Artists
« on: February 11, 2013, 01:14:37 PM »
Good Morning,

My cousin Kyia, (17 years old) is very interested in Steampunk. Keeping in mind of her age and a limited source of funds, are there any websites you can recommend to learn this fascinating art?

If you could leave the links to the sites here and I will pass the information on to her. Thanks for your time.

She's interested in making Steampunk or in collecting/dressing Steampunk?  I know a lot of great Steampunk artists, but not how to make the stuff.

Hey Larissa,

Hmmm… Good question!  Well, let’s go with both! LOL  I do believe she would like to learn how to create jewelry. Any sites you may know about learning would be great. Thanks, Cari

Unfortunately, I don't know jewelry learning.  I just have some great Steampunk artist friends I'd point her to if she wants to buy.

Thanks Larissa… I appreciate your offer, but she would love to learn the art, so she can be a great Steampunk artist herself.
Have a great day  :)

I think Lisa's got the eye.  In fact, I could be very wrong, not being a jeweler, but I feel like decorative Steampunk is more about the eye for composition than it is technique.  One of those things you have or don't.  Functional Steampunk is a whole different ballgame.  To see the best example I've ever seen of functional Steampunk, Google "Steampunk laptop."

I would look on ebay for gears, I've seen some lots go cheap. I actually contacted a watch guy on a linked in group. Some watch people don't think much of their batch of spare parts. I know he emailed me a bag of what he called junk. I called it gold :d
