I've been watching this thread and honestly it is pretty much par for the coarse. Almost everywhere it is the same. 10% of the people do 100% of the work, it really is the same mentality in my mind. I've learned not to let it drive me too crazy, but it still does. Unfortunately you can not change peoples mentality so I try to lead by example.
It is sort of a double edge sword for me, I promote and promote and promote others, and every now and then it is nice to see someone promoting themselves, much less promote others.

I don't know how many of our vendors despise Etsy, but yet they'll promote their etsy listings and not their HAF listings. Makes no sense, we have a strong core of members here, the core is what keeps this place going. With out the core, and you know who you are, we would struggle big time. So I'm very grateful for the support we DO get and I keep my eyes on that.

Last night in the chat it looked like we might have gotten a few more people that are ready to dive in and really support this site and help others. So we'll see, I just know that one person that is willing to spend 5 or 10 minutes a day promoting is huge!

Unfortunately this will be the case wherever you go online or off, so like I said, I try to stay as positive as possible and lead by example.
You are right Andrew always a few that will work hard, and many that just coast along with excuses. I have seen it in church,PTO,Girl Scouts, Boards, and group of people.
The article on the front page here this morning about social media was great, educate, educate, educate! I am always learning new stuff, never too old to learn new ways:)
We love you Andrew for all your hard work:)

I will admit that I have not responded directly to messages about being in a highlight every time. BUT, I at least comment on the highlight itself. AS for the promoting and all, it's so true that most won't lift a finger to help, but are generally the first to gripe about something. Happens here in town all the time. I just do what I can do and try to help everyone. I have learned not to expect anything back.

All admin people, you know we love you! You work so hard!  :-*

I think that's all anyone would like, just an acknowledgment, a comment on the highlight is in my opinion the best .

I never need personal acknowledgement , I send a message so the person knows they are in a highlight, and I ask them to comment in my message, and to share:)

Didn't even know you had 'treasuries'. Now I can make little highlights of the finds I see here. I'm just starting out here, not really as a seller (maybe one day) but just as a participant in supporting handmade.

One thing that has drawn me to HAF is the community. It is strong and I really feel the love and support of everyone for each other. This is high on my value list of a company I want to support.

If you want me to write something about your shop or do a review just let me know - I'm always more than willing. (Just need to schedule them in as this is what I do for others as a ghostwriter) :)

I just started doing the twitter ring (is that what it's called?) and the blog spotlight.

On Etsy, you're notified when you are in a treasury (not that I ever am).  I really try here to comment on Highlights and in the forum, but it's hard to keep up with everything daily.  Social networking takes a lot of time and sometimes I feel like I network more than I paint.

Yes, they do notify you, I have been in a treasury before when I was on Etsy. I sent a message to every one I use in a highlight, otherwise like you Marilyn we might miss out. I try to keep up but it is hard.

It is on the list here to do automatic notifications to people if they are put into a highlight. So it will be easier once that is done!

You are right both you Andrew and Nancy.  People are just like that and unfortunately I catch myself just falling into a tunnel vision trap and things get let go.  I was on chat the other night and I do plan to do my very best to promote this site.  I don't go around "tooting my own horn" too much but I do try to share what I like from others.  I can't get to everyone, but when it passes by me, absolutely it gets done and when I do have a couple hours to spend just looking for others that gets done too.  I wish there were more I could do to help, but hey, every little bit, right?
Thanks for all the support that everyone has given me here.  One day I won't be called a "newbie" anymore

I did a highlight for the HHC8 but forgot to put it in my title on the highlight.  Oh well, it felt good to find those pieces anyway.

Go back and edit it, I think you can just go to Highlightshttp://handmadeartists.com/highlights-view/ go to My Highlights and to the right you will see edit/delete, click edit change the title and save, your in!
