Diploma Scroll
« on: June 20, 2012, 09:08:00 PM »
My granddaughter will celebrate her 18th birthday next month.  She graduated from high school this month.  She has a full academic scholarship to University of Florida for the next four years.  To celebrate her accomplishments, I designed a dated scroll (diploma) in Sterling silver with a red sapphire (not quite red enough to call a ruby) accent stone.  The scroll was made from 26 gauge sheet Sterling silver that was hand pierced, then stamped and formed.  Before the forming the head for the stone was soldered in place with hard silver solder.  After forming the scroll was burnished to a high shine and then the stone was set into the head.  The sapphire is 5 x 3 mm oval shape in a brilliant cut.  Here it is:

Thanks for looking.  I enjoyed making this one.

Absolutely beautiful, John!  Funny how what we each do is so much more fun when it's for a special person/occasion!

Thanks to all for the kind comments.  Unfortunately, we don't have the ability to put up a sample for custom making, or maybe we can?  Andrew can I do this with an item?

John,
Yes we've discussed this before in a previous thread. If you are putting up a made to order item just be specific in your description so the customer knows it will "x" amount of time before they receive their item.
In this case the year may change, the stone may change, and the metal may change so I would throw out some possible combinations or options so the customer may know your diversity or range in the item.
Hope that helps and I personally think it is a great idea.
