Sorry! But do I always have to be PC?
« on: May 11, 2012, 09:34:24 AM »
I got a little snarky with someone in an email just a few minutes ago.
They signed up a couple of months ago, didn't get a sale. I said sometimes it takes a little time to establish yourself in a new venue. Then she came back with, maybe on your site but I went to @^@^@^&@ and made sales right away LOL.

LOL?
LOL? WTF!
REALLY?
Honestly? Do some people have their head so far up their butt that they really cannot see the light of day?
So I told her that maybe you should stay at %$^%^ as I did not find humor in your statement. We've put too much work into this to be insulted.
....
.......
Calming Down Now....
I really do not know what is happening in society now a days, are there really that many a**holes out there?
I guess so. SAD.

I was on another forum yesterday, a very large forum, of artists that specialize in a certain style. I was private messaged 3 times by members offering apologies by how some of their members act.
REALLY?
Again I'm posting in a thread about us, being helpful, answering questions and felt like I was on trial to an extent. In general everyone was decent and some nice and very appreciative that a marketplace owner would come on their forum and actually listen, actually consider their recommendations for a new category.
But other members were so worried that I would be insulted, that they actually messaged me to apologize in advance for the abrasiveness of some.

We have many seasoned sellers with us, they know the ropes, they know the work that goes into these things. But then we have those that, I hate to say it, but I'm glad that they leave. If your attitude sucks and you want something for nothing, I fear for your businesses success.

Everybody is 10 feet tall and muscle bound behind a keyboard, would love to meet some of these people on the street and see how tall they are. Honestly on the street they are probably the sweetest around but behind the keyboard WATCHOUT  >:) >:) >:)

Steps off soapbox and now sipping some coffee..... ;D

I agree about the political correctness.  Be correct instead of politically correct.  PC is the absolute worst thing that has happened in this world.  So many idiots out there in denial, which is really what PC is.  I believe in telling the truth, not covering it up with PC crap.  The world is going downhill fast because of PC.

Only a couple of months with no sales?  I am in my 5th month with no sales on here.  That person needs to realize that this is a new site.  Even at Etsy, it took me a month and a half to get my first sale...and that one has been around for a while.  He or she needs to help promote the site instead of complaining and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem.

I know I shouldn't vent publicly, it probably isn't too professional. I usually save it for private discussions with Kimberly.
She then emails me back after I told her I was insulted and says she was offering constructive criticism. Well saying I didn't get any sales with you, but I did with them is not constrictive. I'll listen to criticism, I think most of you know that. Anyway I told her if she thought that was constructive, I fear for her business.

Sorry but it just pissed me off.
Now I know we do not get millions in sales yet. But for .17 cents a day, really? That is all we charge for  monthly subscriptions, and  .14 cents a day for annual. That isn't a lot of money for the service we provide.
Frustrated!
Then on top of it be nasty. I unfortunately blame a lot of this behavior from artists in this business to how they were treated on Etsy.

Guess what we are not Etsy! Hello?

It is just like in a relationship, the person you are with is not anyone you have ever dated before. They are themselves and should not pay the price for what other people did to you. Now this is easier said than done, I realize that. But whatever happened to common courtesy?

Well said!
Heck I've haven't had a sale anywhere (artfire or here) in over a year!
I don't know,  maybe I've been blacklisted somewhere!

I think it's sad that people get nasty because they can sort of hide behind the keyboard.  Emails of course, it's kind of hidden but if  it's publicly posted, it's there for the world to see.  And that isn't good for anyone., but especially for them.
I have known of people publicly sharing nasty emails!  Not many but, that's sort of risky.
What happened to "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" or just plain ol' respect. ???
Andrew - you do have the right to jump on that soap box now & then! Yeah, that's the one I was trying to think of "Common Courtesy"

People like that are not needed here. They are the ones who would fill this forum with unpleasant snarkiness and complaints and to be honest - they wouldn't stand a chance here...we as a whole just wouldn't tolerate it...we work too hard in keeping this a pleasant, uplifting and helpful place to be and I'm sure I can speak for pretty much everyone, we like it that way

Andrew, no need to be sorry.  We all need to vent now and then.  People do have bad days and get frustrated if they aren't getting sales, but if it's a ongoing attitude, then that is a problem.  Maybe it's an Etsy thing? :)  I've seen some over there who can be pretty snobby.  It shows in the forums.

As far as getting sales on one site vs. another, it's just a matter of which site a potential buyer knows about or chooses to go...nothing more.  It's not like Etsy is promoting its site or sellers like you are here.  That seller should be thankful for all the promotion you do.  If someone says you are not like Etsy, take that as a compliment. :)  Don't ever want to be like them.

Behind all the big talk behind the keyboard, lurks a small person.

Sorry you had it rough today honey  :-* .  I got my own blasting at the Post Office because I was shipping an international package and was taking too long according to the person behind me even though I waited in line just like everyone else.  To boot, she told me I should wait until there isn't a line to do things like international shipping and should not make her wait  :o .  Maybe the full moon but people have been rough lately.

Okay, I reading this thread and thinking "Oh boy, complaining after such a short time, yadda, yadda, yadda." Common courtesy went out the window awhile ago I think. And then I get to this post office stuff- Are you freakin' kidding me? Seriously? That was just the topper for me.  :o

That lady at the post office had some nerve!  Seems like the nasty ones are out today.  Just give them a nice smile say "You have a nice day too"  in your most sarcastic voice.

Sigh.  Yeah.

I see this in too many aspects of my life & it's part of why I don't even want to be a lawyer anymore.  I can guarantee my expertise and work ethic, but I certainly can't guarantee results.  I make that very clear, but people hear what they want to hear.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to let it roll off your back.  Anyone with any sense knows that you guys do all you can, more than most, and the rest is up to us.  Between being small, being new, and being mostly "luxury" items, there's only so much we can do.

Hell, I went to a higher end mall near here and the store employees were all standing out front of their stores, looking hungry, trying to call people in.  It was like going to Ren Faire... at the mall!

NJ's unemployment rate went from 10% to 8% back up to 9% recently.  I imagine the rest of the country - world, even - is similar.  Our usual rate, for comparative purposes, is 4-5%.  So you get the idea.
