Anyone?...any felters ?

I currently use felt that is made from recycled materials but I have been pondering making my own one day. i know this may sound like a horrible question but i want to know for the sake of others,it wouldn't really matter to me. I just know about wool coats and snow,they come inside and wet wool smell! It didn't even occur to me until a conversation recently,does the felting process differ from that situation?

I'll still try it either way,we have a little outside area,not at all a yard ,but bigger than a porch that i can use for a mini-studio if need be. i know about dry felting but its not happening I'm too scared of those needles!
