Polymer Clay Violin Sculpture
« on: December 08, 2011, 05:49:29 PM »
It took me a long time but I am almost finished handcrafting this folksy little piece! It just needs to be strung:) I'll post more detailed pics when it is.

I'm also curious about size and I am awestruck.

Thanks:) It's roughly 14" X 5" X 2.5". I wanted to make it full sized but decided on a mini version...

Still a lot of work!  Funny thing from a photo is I was trying to figure out if it was closer to full size or tiny dollhouse-sized.

It was ambitious...approximately three full-time days worth. My biggest inspiration for this piece was the clay itself.  I recently purchased these really cool metallic polymer clays..copper and bronze and I already had the gold and silver :) once the other rich colors were added the palette just begged for a musical piece.

I've already decided on my next piece...can't wait to get it out of my head :) I'm off to get more clay!!!

I baked it in two pieces but in several stages...I first bake the pieces that are needed for strength and stability, then I apply the decoration and bake it again. It really gets built rather than sculpted. I learned so much making this piece and knowing what I do now I would probably make it differently next time. I have another ambitious piece in the works that I'm building for an upcoming show called "Play". Stay tuned...
