Finally have some baby cucumbers here that should be ready soon and a mixing bowl full of tomatoes!  Two of the plants decided to explode this week so we will be eating a lot of tomato based stuff.

You can freeze some too. Great for sauces and stuff in the winter!

After a bit more sun this weekend I should have enough to make a big batch of sauce for this winter. Just need to find a good day where I can stay at home and cook!

I'm pretty sure it's official that our strawberry plants are dead.     I watered them like crazy every day but to no avail, they shriveled up and don't look like they're coming back.  booo!

On the bright side our tomato plants are exploding, we picked a few more jalapenos, beans and cucumbers!

Oh no!  Sorry about those strawberries.  It's been really hot here too, hard to keep the plants wet enough.

Thanks!  Yeah it makes me sad, I was really looking forward to fresh strawberries!  Maybe this weekend I can snag some fresh raspberries from my dad.

Strawberry plants can be kind of finicky to grow. They might have benefitted from a little shade cloth to keep the direct sun off and straw or some type of mulch around them, but not right to the plant to keep the soil cooler and damp. Of course if they are too wet, they will rot at the base.

Andy's aunt gave us 2 hanging baskets of strawberries and we hung them in our porch so they got some direct sunlight but not constant.  They did alright for the first 2 weeks and popped off a few small strawberries each.  Then I'm not sure if it was just the heat or what but they up and died.  We tried hanging them on our apple tree (which is dying ) so they get more sun but I think they're just goners!

Ate my first cherry tomato yesterday

Have you ever seen potato fruit? From my brief research they are most often seen on heritage potatos and they are not edible (toxic) but each little fruit has about 300 potato seeds in it.
