My heirloom tomatoes have sprouted and I planted red potatoes today! I am really looking forward to some good fresh homegrown food!.... (now I'm hungry)

We've been having such cold and snow that we haven't been able to move anything outside!  We've got a veritable jungle in the dining room:  Pumpkins, summer squash, butternut squash, watermelon, beefsteak tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, red potatoes, peas, green beans, Mexican red beans, corn, several kinds of bell & hot peppers, various flowers, and a bunch of other stuff, and it's all on a 6' table and the windowsill.

Planning to plant the hardier,  bigger plants tomorrow, since it's getting to be in the mid-50s finally.  And tomorrow will be sunny too.

This reminds me of my childhood... and it's the reason I didn't do a garden for many years... lol ;D

I have some really large pots and I am gonna try a couple things, but has to be somewhere the dogs can't get to them.  They eat EVERYTHING up to and including the pots.

It's been so cold here, I haven't even tried to plant anything yet. I think this year I'll focus on herbs only.

Herbs are so much easier - do 'em in pots & move them in & out.  Turns out the temp is going to drop again, so we're planning to move the garden box over the corn & I'm picking up clear shower curtain liners so we can do a sort of makeshift greenhouse & hope it's enough.  I love having a husband who thinks outside the box.

Clear shower curtain? Great idea Larissa. Let us know if it works....
Yeah, I am doing herbs exactly for the easiness of it. I am feeling really lazy this year, though I would love some tomatoes.

I hope it is working!  It was COLD last night.  But there's condensation inside the curtains, so it's obviously at least somewhat warmer in there.  Fingers crossed!  We're hoping for the first harvest by June so during our mardi gras party we can send guests over to pick their own ears & throw them on the grill.

monday we took the kids and visited our local greenhouse.  now they are sitting on my back deck waiting for the forecasted rainstorm.  forecasted every day, but never rained.  :P   but we did get the corn seed in the ground!

The shower curtains didn't work, so we need to replant the corn.  A bunch went in today, though.  I'm gonna be SORE tomorrow!
