What is LinkedIn?

What exactly is LinkedIn?  I recently received a LinkedIn invitation from someone wanting to add me to their LinkedIn professional network, but I don't have a clue what LinkedIn actually is and wanted to make sure of what it is before accepting it.

Both Andrew and I are on there and he has made some connections with other site administrators as well as some other crafters that could be benificial.  I haven't played with the site enough to figure it out though...my goal is when we get back from vacation to site down with a few of these types of sites and try to understand them.

It's basically professional networking. You make connections with other people in your industry. You can join groups and start or be involved in conversations. You can recommend people you know and they can do it for you. It can help you find a job if you're looking. It's really pretty good. My one pet peeve is that some people are using it to advertise their stuff and that's really not cool and they frown upon that.

Yeah, kind of. You won't be seeing pictures of stuff everywhere. It's a good group.

I joined a number of handmade groups on LinkedIn.  Through those, I have greatly increased views of my Facebook page.  Nothing has let to sales yet, but I figure it cannot hurt.
