Thanks, Sandi! It really is. What makes it even worse is that up until last year I had no problems with her whatsoever; then, out of the blue, she started targeting me and hasn't let up since. I've actually been working there longer than she has.  I've been there for a little over 6 years (first as a page then as a part-time library clerk) and she's only been there for a little over 4.  Apart from her, I couldn't have asked for a better group to work with, but she has absolutely no ethics. She manipulates, intimidates, misrepresents, and flat out lies to and about the staff. Yet for some reason she hasn't been fired (despite the fact that just about all of us there have filed reports on her to the assistant director and some multiple times; the full-time staff told me that reports/complaints are written up about her almost weekly.) One way or another I need out of that job, I'd just prefer it to be on my terms and not hers.

Thanks, Larissa! And yes, she has. I've confronted her about it multiple times (and flat out told her I considered this to be discrimination). I even provided her with a note from my chiropractor (who was the first person to suspect dysplasia and had me sent to a specialist to begin with) when she asked for proof of why I couldn't shelve (even though she already knew why). She doesn't consider it sufficient evidence even though I've put in multiple time-off requests for specialist appointments and MRIs and talked with her in-depth about it on several occasions. The first time I explained my condition in-depth to her I told her of how I'd been told that without treatment (i.e. surgery) I would eventually end up in a wheelchair from this. Her response was to tell me: "Well you know the library has one if you should need it." I response that, personally, I found to be very callous as a wheelchair is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. On the urging of my parents, I did e-mail her superior and told him about my condition and her treatment of it. (I also gave him the name of my surgeon if he needed more 'proof.') It was right after that e-mail that she's backed off. He told me he would file my e-mail with verbal warnings so I think he may had had a word with her. Seeing as the next time I saw her she was asking for specifics on what tasks where difficult for me to do and how the library could help me with them (something she should has asked from the beginning). However, his reprimands of her never seem to last. I've considered making an EEOC compliant, but I really hate to have to resort to that and drag the whole library's name through the mud because of one person. If my e-mail to her boss hadn't resulted in any changes then my parents had decided they would be writing a letter to the county newspaper and making the library's conduct public. Something that I highly doubt would help them the next time their millage came up for a vote.

Thanks for the links! I'll definitely be keeping them on hand. I'm hoping (and praying) that I can get out of there before it starts back up again and that it won't come to that, but if I have to I will. I've talked with her multiple times about what the law says on this (been trying to research it in case it came to that) and how my condition is considered a disability but she still refuses to treat it as such. She said the note I gave her wasn't sufficient because it didn't directly state that I had a disability and said it was just a note of limitation. She refuses to consider the reason behind the 'limitations' and basically accused me of lying by saying that she thought they were doing pretty well in accommodating me by letting me park closer to the building when they were 'just taking my word for it without any real evidence.' I can explain to her over and over about what hip dysplasia is and what it does to a person, but she just keeps asking for more and more 'proof' even though it's staring her right in the face. Essentially, unless a doctor directly spells it out as 'this person has a disability' she refuses to consider anything that.

At the very least, this sounds like a hostile work environment!

Sadly  :( . Why is basic decency/consideration so hard for some people to understand? *Sigh*

Employer type people can just be - well - a$$holes sometimes.  Twenty years ago, we were hit head on by a drunk driver at 55 MPH.  We both had on our seat belts and our wonderful car saved our lives. After recovering from three compression fractures in my spine, a broken sternum (from hitting said seat belt) and a myriad of torn ligament, tendons and muscles, my assortment of specialists "rated" me and wrote an official letter stating said disability. On presenting the letter to my employer, which stated some accommodations I would need in the future, the head of HR informed me that because my rating of full/permanent disability was only 19%, they didn't have to do anything for me.  They were only required to make the accommodations if the disability rating was 20% or more.

So I now have 6 orange FurPets© in stock.  Think it's time to go fishing.

I don't understand how humans can treat other humans like that.

Love those furpets so much!  And yeah, the middle of the country does love their football!  Even when they haven't got a pro team, like Nebraska.

Went to a networking dinner thing last night, and met a slew of great women, tonight is the Environmental Commission, tomorrow night is yoga, and Friday night I'm going to a paint night with friends to raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

Because if I wasn't busy enough...

I sold the card/pen set for Making Strides at book club last night!  The check for $85 is on its way to the event people as we speak.  I'm so happy, and so is our team captain!  Plus, someone else wants two sets of just the cards, so another $40 is being donated to the walk.  Apparently, this year is the first year the team will be reaching it's $1,000 goal.

Tonight is just a normal night, stuff around the house.  I'm in the middle of washing more 'paca fleece to spin.

Eric placed 7th in pork in his BBQ competition this weekend!  That earned him his second call, and is 3 spots up from his 10th place call at the last competition!  Plus this one had about double the number of competitors and more real heavy hitters in BBQ... which means he's improved even more than it looks like.  Woohoo!

Just back from a fiber show, and where else can you walk into the campground restroom at 5:00 am and meet a lady using a turkish drop spindle, to practice the technique of spinning and then Navaho plying that she had learned in a workshop!   (It was the warmest place around for those of us camping without heat in 30 degree weather) After a nice conversation I went to get my change of clothes (and knitting) but she was gone to drive to the lake to watch  the sun rise (I found out later)....At least for the next show I will get to sleep in a heated cabin!

Congrats to Eric on his improvement.
