I can sure see that as a really nice wrap dress. It's a great print. Personally I like bright colors better.

I guess I'm more on the boring side. I'm mostly in plain pastels, black, white, cream ...

I also like this one. Beautiful, to me.

I am just really fishing around to see what others might like. If you go to looking around on that site, and see something YOU really like, then please feel free to post a link to it.

Ok, I did get out to look in Hancocks Fabrics, and I bought two pieces of fabric from the clearance table at 2.95 yd, fall colors of course. This could be doable at $12.99 a yard and under for some really NICE fabrics. I love the embroidered Microsuedes, and they run about $14.99 a yard, unless I can catch them on sale. Three yards of that would run me $45, then there's the pattern, notions, and all that. It would cost me around $60 to make a suit type jacket in, say, a size 24W. And for my time, I would probably charge $100 for the finished product. I personally could not afford that, but what do you all think? Is that a reasonable price, for say, an unlined jacket?

I have both the plus sized and the tall problem. I can sew but don't have the space nor the time to do so. Takes me hours to try on and buy clothes.  I find what I can and buy them out of whatever fits when i do find something that fits.  Sexy is relative.  I happen to like the leggings and jeggings with tunics but it is almost impossible for me to find other kind of clothes that not only fit nice, and make me look nice but are comfortable at the same time.   Nothing worse than looking nice but having a sour look on your face or you having to be figity because your clothes are pinching or scratching you.  I cannot just buy from the internet, even at a plus sized store, because I always always, have to send it back, because it just doesn't fit right.  Of course I am so totally picky, that I am not surprised that I have trouble finding things.  Anything worth while is usually so expensive that I cannot afford it so I do the best that I can.  I would love to find affordable, trendy and sexy clothes.  But girls stopped having the hourglass figure back in the 30's other than a choice few who are not with us anymore so, what is a girl to do?

Thanks for posting, Laura. I too, am one who cannot buy online, I have to try on pants always, unless they are stretchy. Jeans, always. Woven dress slacks, always. Tops I can do pretty well with a 1X. I may have to find a camisole to wear under it...  ;D

And I can't stand anything cut on a bias.  :o

I suppose I should really take a hard look at my last statement before jumping headlong into something like this. I just want so badly to DO something,  to fix a major problem out there. I try to be an optimist, most of the time, so I suppose I am just hopeful that a shop for plus size would go, it would be received well.

Hey! So I was writing an article on plus size fashion trends for 2011, and I remembered our discussion on here. Any update, Jan? :) Did you decide to make the clothes, or did you set aside the idea for now?

I actually do have a need for tailored clothing. There are so many body types out there now a days, you would almost have to custom make everything, unless you wanted to do the tent or, like I like to call it, the swooshy type clothing. You know where the clothes just kind of flow with your movements or if you are standing in a breeze. I have to say, if I could get some clothing out of it, I would be happy to model and even wear more fancy and sexy clothing on stage.

Yes, and custom fitting is extrememly difficult to do without the person being handy for a fitting. Almost always,  I have found in the past, women cheat a little on giving their measurements, and is always a disaster for a good fit. Back when I was in the service, I had a gal bring me a sleek little black dress to alter to her tiny figure. She wanted it too tight at the hips, and I had to tell her that the first time she sat down in the dress, she would split the seams and be embarrassed as hell. She begrudgingly listened then, and later came back to tell me that she was glad I talked her into doing how I thought it should be.

That's a big reason why I would never want to sell custom-made clothing online. First, you have to count on the person actually being able to measure themselves properly, then you have to hope they are being honest (it's not like you're going to display their measurements online, for crying out loud!), and then you have to hope that, even if you got the measurements exact, they like the way the clothing fits. *sigh* Too much stress for me!
