First off...yes, I am spoiled and love every minute of it.  Andrew even has my oldest trained.  We had to buy a toaster so as we are walking towards the checkout with the toaster my son says "But mom, now we need to go find you new pajamas."

Have fun with your machine!  Mine will be coming out again soon to make some new craft show table covers!

Ha, I love that!  Your son's future wife will be swimming in PJs, apparently.

So no I'm not jealous at all, personally I feel if a woman isn't spoiled then the man isn't doing his job.

What planet are you from??

This whole thread is so representative of why I love this place so much!
Really! discussions of new appliances and jammies all in the same sentence!!!!! lo

Andrew - you're a smart man!

Larissa - Happy Birthday!! and congrats on the sewing machine! if it's anything like mine, it won't run if the bobbin winder is pushed over - mine sat for quite a while before I found the instructions again and then felt like a real dummie!  I have a 24yr old Kenmore that starts up every time, but my newest (5 yr old) White machine wouldn't start! duh, somehow the bobbin winder got pushed over and it wouldn't go!
Happy Sewing! do you think they were hinting at something - especially with the spools of thread and buttons????

Thanks for the tip, Kris!

Oh, they're not hinting, they're telling me straight out - it was in my birthday card that my nephew wants me to make him stuff!

Coincidentally, I got an email today with something about a quilt kit, so I went hunting and saw that Joann's has a beginner quilt kit for each month, with holiday motifs!  They're only $15 each too.  I told Eric I wanted to get them, and he asked, "You wanted to make quilts?"

I love quilts!  I'll never be IKQS, but I can do some.

I told him if he didn't work with me on this, he'd come home to find his shirts sewn together.

As soon as I figure out the machine...

Well, not-so-coincidentally, since he's known me since we were 9 and knows that I'm an art freak, my friend Jake gave me a gift card to Michael's for my birthday.

After my 2nd bout of root canal this morning (yes, on my birthday), I was feeling self-pitying, so I went to use the gift card.

In addition to 3 new brushes for face painting to replace some of my more heavily used ones, I got these!

The one on the left looks GREAT in light of the fact that I was forewarned that my nephew wants me to make him things.  And how cool is the one on the right in light of the current challenge?!

I'm not doing any of the t-shirt projects in the book for the challenge, obviously, but the challenge itself has kind of inspired me to do things with my old shirts.  I have a slew of old concert shirts that I'll never throw away because they're souvenirs, but I'll pretty much never wear again either.  Bring on the revamp book!

Yeah, baby!

Yay for the awesome, perfect-timing t-shirt book!! I've seen that at Michaels and have come close to buying it, but I keep reminding myself that I just need to see if the library has it.

Actually, it IS perfect timing.  I found it when I'm already almost done with my contest project, which means I can't use this book to influence me, and my idea for the challenge was ALL my own.

On the other hand, the challenge has me so hyped up on the idea, that the book was a no-brainer to buy for future projects!

I figured no one would appreciate this like you guys would.  I've never owned a sewing machine before!  Heck, the last time I used one was in 8th grade, in home ec... but I really wanted one!

Larissa-My hubby and kids got me a sewing machine for my birthday, too!  I also haven't used one since 8th grade, but I'm so excited to have it!!  Now I just have to find some time to learn how to use it. :)

Well,  my machines aren't that old, just need to use them more. So I don't need new ones, but it's great having a serger that finally works!

Shaking my head and grinning at you gals who haven't sewn since eigth grade, shoot, that just got me wound up to do all the sewing I could.

I think my biggest challenge (and of course I didn't take him up on it) came while I was overseas on deployment. I had my barracks door open, and was pinning a pattern onto fabric when all of a sudden a man's shaving bag, brown leather, was tossed onto my work. I looked up quickly and there was one of the flyboys in my squadron, grinning like a cheshire cat, asking if I could make him a thong out of it, LOL! It was just tooo funny, you'd have to have been there... ;)

Oh mercy, I'd have told him to go float! (And make sure he's wearing pants while doing so.)
