Calling all Glue Experts
JewelrybyNaLa:
I've never done it before, so I have a couple of questions about gluing rhinestones to metal.
1. Which would you most highly recommend? Gorilla Glue? E6000? Jewel Bond? 2 Part Epoxy?
2. The spot for the gem on the pendant is concave but the rhinestones I have are flat backed, and only the edges touch the surface of the pendant. Will this work, or is there another type of stone I should be using?
Larissa:
I don't know exactly what sort of glue you want, but I know you want one that's more of a gel that holds its shape than a liquid. That way you can fill the concave area and build it up so as much surface touches the back of the rhinestone as possible.
MrsWTownsend:
You could try E6000 epoxy. That is a commonly used jewelers glue (as well as for many other arenas) and doesn't wear off easily; it can be found practically EVERYWHERE.
Otherwise I'd suggest using a gel style super glue as well~ gorilla glue rocks.
JewelrybyNaLa:
I'm getting varied opinions on this in the Etsy forum. There were many previous threads on the subject, none of which came to a strong consensus on which glue is the best for jewelry.
I think I'm leaning toward a two part epoxy, which supposedly isn't as toxic as E6000, and would fill in the gap like you said, Larissa.
These two glues seem to come up as the faves among the jewelry crowd. I guess I was just hoping someone had heard of a new one that surpassed everything else, but nothing is popping up yet ...
MrsWTownsend:
How funny~ my last post here is one that went in to oblivion...
