Does everyone know what BFF means?
« on: May 07, 2010, 06:41:01 PM »
I need some advice.  I just finished and listed a new doll, Emma, in my shop.  In the first sentence (my sales pitch), I asked, "who wouldn't want Emma for their new bff?"

I'm wondering now if that was a mistake.  I'm old and I know that bff is Best Friend Forever.  But if it's not widely known, I think it should come out.

Proudly, this is my first listing which states, "Proud member of the HAF Street Team."  Here's the link if you'd like to go take a look...  http://www.etsy.com/listing/46430568/meet-emma-handmade-rag-doll-ready-to-be

Thanks in advance for your assistance with this!

With texting everyone knows BFF...no worries, you will be understood.

I think it would be fairly safe to say that most people know what BFF stands for, but if you were worried, you could change your title to:

Meet Emma - Handmade Rag Doll Ready To Be A Child's Best Friend Forever

That would help ensure that everyone would know what BFF stood for.  ;)

Very cute dolly, btw.  :)

I'm old, and yes, I did know what BFF meant. But there are so many acronyms that I don't know! Personally, I'd shy away from using them. OOAK sticks in my mind - I make jewelry and didn't know what OOAK meant till last month.

Some acronyms are only widely known in certain places...like Joan said about OOAK, I know I didn't learn that one 'til I joined Etsy. A lot of forums use crazy acronyms that I never understand...I think DH means Dear Husband, right? :P But as far as BFF goes, that one seems to get used EVERYwhere! It's been around long before the Internet was popular, so most people should know that one by now. I think you're safe! :D I did take a look at the listing, and I like how you did it, with "best friend" in the title and BFF in the description. In the editing world, you always need to write out an acronym first with the abbreviation in parenthesis next to it, so people know what you're talking about. From then on you can use the acronym in the rest of the writing.

I think that is a great idea - makes sure people do know what you are talking about.

You want it you will have to write it!  ;D   Andrew is constantly asking me what all the acronyms mean in chats...he is cute but really oblivious sometimes.

I think most people who spend time online know to either ask what those mean or to look them up if they don't know.  Also, there have been a lot of commercials lately using the term BFF, haven't there?  So there should be some visibility for it...

Are you kidding???  By now EVERYONE should know what BFF is!!!!  (Oh, apparently except for my spell check, which does not recognize it...  lol) If you are within any area that accommodates any form of media you HAVE to have been exposed to this terminology by now...

Stumbled your cute little dolly listing too!  ;D
