More Hacked Up Book Art
« on: March 02, 2010, 09:48:28 AM »
Still finding ways to use all those silly lit books that I spent so long reading.  This one is Voltaire's Candide which is a twisted love and class struggle story.

Thank you!  Those silly roses almost sent me over the edge.  I had a pile of "reject" flowers all over my table because none of them looked right.

You picked the absolute perfect flowers, Kim. That's an awesome wall or table decoration!  :)

Voltaire, right? Yep, and that's about the extent of what I remember about reading that book in school.  :-[ ;D

That's gorgeous!  And I love the black negative space, but I could also see this done alternately with a wedding invitation peeking through the heart from the back, as an after-wedding keepsake/gift.

Honey, as long as we have been together you would think you would be used to my messes by now...and I always (eventually) clean up!

I haven't decided yet.  I got an email asking about a price, but I'm not sure what to charge yet.

My first thought was $50. I did some searching on Etsy to see if anyone had any similar items posted (grats, yours is OOAK!), and I found some shadow boxes with book pages in them in various forms, but nothing as cool as yours. They were all around $35-$40. This item, which isn't in a shadow box, is probably the most similar item I found: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=36804500   Cool idea! But I like how yours has a cleaner look to it. And that item is $70.

Sooo...you can pretty much price it however you'd like! ;D

I think I know some people who'd be all over it too.

I may make a few more and then put them out there for sale.  I want to do one for Clockwork Orange next.  Thanks for the research, by the way, $50 seems reasonable to me, in fact that is the same price Andrew and I were talking about the other night-materials aren't much but they do take a long time to do.
