Memories of Christmas Past-Part 3
I hope everyone had a wonderful and joyous holiday season. As previously described in my postings, “Memories of Christmas Past-Part 1“, and Memories of Christmas Past -Part 2, the holidays are a wonderful time to make memories with friends and family. While decorating each year I think about the time and creativity that my mother put into all the things she created in her lifetime. She made things for every holiday and tons of things in between. She had a gift for looking at an object that people would normally throw away when it was empty or used up and see what it could become. Today we call this upcycling.
Of the multitude of decorations she designed, many included an upcycled item. It has been my privilege to share some of her creations with you. As an ending to this series of articles, I thought I would include several types of upcycled items for your viewing pleasure.
Item 1: This first group is a set of boxes. Each one has the letters N O E L around them, which allows many different color combinations and arrangements. Each box was cut and scored so there are flaps and a lid. They are cut from an empty, everyday item that is resilient and has a wax coating.
Item 2 & 3: The second group contains ornaments in plastic containers. They are trimmed and filled with various little holiday items. In this case the upcycled item used for the square ornament is different from the others.
Item 4: This group uses an upcycled item that is solid and has some weight to it. They are covered in felt and can be decorated in various ways. A small bell attached at the bottom is a fun addition.
Item 5: This little beauty is delicate and needs care when storing it, but looks lovely when she is on the tree. It is probably not hard to guess what her body is made of but I included her because she is one of my favorites.
Item 6: For the final group of items, I have selected the most obvious upcycled item. My mom and dad were very active and enjoyed sports all their lives. She made these for him, because they made him smile.
As before, I will watch the replies and post the answers to each of the 5 items in a reply.
