Leap of Faith – Inspiring Consumer Confidence

LeapRecently, we had an issue with one of our vehicles. A couple of the gauges in our truck stopped working – they were always pegged. The dealer quoted $900 for the repair. So onto the internet we go. We found a listing for people called The Gauge Guy who would complete the repair and convert the entire dash to LED in the color of our choice for $160 plus shipping, and the repair would be completed in one day.  All we had to do was remove the gauge panel from our truck, pack it securely and send it with a check for the $160 and prepaid return shipping.  So we did it.

After the entire gauge panel was pulled from the dash of the truck, packed and shipped away, I had the thought, “What if this is a scam?”  Good grief, we’ll be in a world of hurt if it is.  Not only would we be out the money, but here is this truck sitting in our driveway with no gauges in it – no speedometer, no gas gauge….  what would we do?  Fortunately, everything worked just as advertised.  The gauges were back to us within a week and they work perfectly and look gorgeous.  But what was it that coerced us to make this leap of faith?

The Web Site Looked “Professional”

The web site had a polished look and feel to it.  It had nice photos and well thought out text.  There were no spelling or grammatical errors in it that we noticed.  It was easy to navigate – it seemed logical to us.

The Company Had Been In Business For a While

Right off the bat, this web site told us they had been in business since 2003.  They also had a whole section of customer comments that were dated and went back years.

The Website Explained the Process Used in the Repairs

There was detailed information on what goes into repairing the gauges on trucks such as ours.  It included pictures and diagrams almost enough that if you were handy or so-inclined, you might try and do it yourself.

The Website Offered a Guarantee

In a few places throughout the website, the guarantee was clearly stated, giving a phone number to call for help, information, technical support and warranty claims.

Buy meSo What Has Any Of This To Do With Us?

There are many lessons to be learned from our experience.  No matter where your online venue is, all of the things above can be incorporated to give your web customers the same level of confidence so that they will make a purchase from you.  Your shop or site should be well organized.  Your policies should be clearly stated, and emphasize how far you will go and what you will do to guarantee customer satisfaction.  Your pictures should be sharp and focused.  Whatever you write should be concise and error-free.  Your shop section titles should make sense to the browser, and contain what the title implies.  Whatever color scheme you choose should be consistent.  All of these things will inspire our customers to spend.

We are all doing business on the web, so we all need to inspire complete confidence in our web visitors so that they, too, will be moved to part with their hard earned dollars.
