In Memory of Jewelry By Janelle

Todays featured artist is a person that is near and dear to all of our hearts at the HandmadeArtsistsForum and HandmadeArtistsShop.  Janelle was one of the original members of the forum when we began way back when.  She passed away unexpectedly recently and her loss is still felt by many of our long time members.

As a member, Janelle was extremely active in the forum and always ready with something encouraging to say about others work.  If you asked for help, she was one of the first to volunteer her time and talents; always without asking for anything in return.

In addition to being a huge supporter of all things handmade, Janelle was a talent in her own right.  She loved to make jewelry, and found a real talent in working with exotic woods.  She was always proud to show off her newest creation and we watched her talent grow with each new piece she created.

According to her bio, “I like to think of myself as creative in all things, and will experiment with everything. I have never been someone who wants what everyone else has, ie; seeing my same outfit on someone else. I love jewelry, but could never find the colors I preferred, and most often, didn’t care for the styles being offered. I found a niche in creating something different with exotic and highly figured American burled woods. Unemployed, and with no funds for jewelry-making supplies, My ex offered me the use of his woodshop with lessons on how to use the equipment, and use of his scrap exotics. I have since been able to convince him to slice me some out of his good woods too, LOL! I started out playing with shapes really, and when something looked right, it was ON! I was hooked. I love the colorful woods such as purpleheart, tulipwood rosewood, and the more dramatic, darker woods like Cocobolo and, Kingswood rosewood, and too many more to mention.”

After Janelle’s passing; the members of the HandmadeArtstistsForum came together to take up a collection in order to help cover the expenses.  Through the generosity of our members, we were able to send a sizable donation to Janelle’s brother.  In addition to this donation, we found out that one of our members has had some of Janelle’s jewelry creations in her shop. Trusk4U has offered to set up and run a shop on the HandmadeArtistsShop in honor of Janelle using the jewelry that she had in her shop.  Trusk4U has written each description and taken fabulous photos of all of Janelle’s jewelry.  Each piece is priced exactly as Janelle priced it and the money from the sale of her jewelry will go directly to Janelle’s family.

I personally own a piece of Janelle’s jewelry, one of her first actually, and can tell you that it is the highest quality and made with incredible pride and care.

We are asking for your support of the family of one of our starting members by checking out the shop set up and maintained in her honor at Jewelry By Janelle
